Job Description
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Section Engineer provides technical leadership in the planning, design, and execution of projects involving Exelon's utility infrastructure including electric or gas distribution, transmission, substations, and related systems. This role involves mentoring junior engineers and includes strategic planning, leading complex engineering studies, and ensuring engineering excellence across projects and operations within the section. Champions cross-functional collaboration and continuous improvement across engineering operations. Work can include Directing engineering studies and contributes to performance evaluations across the section / segment of responsibility Setting priorities for safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance. Approving budgets, work packages, and technical specifications Leading cross-functional coordination and external partnerships. Responsible for planning, scheduling, and executing maintenance, overhaul, and repair activities for high-voltage substation equipment such as transformers, SVCs, circuit breakers, and DC battery systems.Ensure that all corrective and preventive maintenance tasks are completed and documented in systems like CASCADE and AS8. This includes logging SF6 gas handling, updating nameplate data, and ensuring equipment is properly retired or commissioned.
Communicate emergent or emergency changes that affect equipment ratings to the OCC/TSO, including temporary repairs, equipment replacements, and field modifications.
Support capital projects by coordinating with project managers, construction teams, and testing engineers. Ensure smooth transitions during outages and verify that all pre-energization and post-energization checks are completed.
Leads the work activities of project teams and others on the implementation of large specialized technical projects and/or programs in order to develop studies, proposals, commissioning plans to support safely energizing and placing major utility and customer systems and equipment on system.
Performs assignments while acting independently, and may lead multi-discipline teams, may include providing direct oversight of contractorsParticipates in department/project management planning and monitor performance for the accomplishment of committed results.
Provides detailed technical training, mentorship, peer review, and/or guidance to otherMay participate in technical and industry societies and committees to enhance knowledge of new technologies or issues in area of company interest. Applies technical knowledge to help promote a safe work environment and to enhance customer satisfaction Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Engineering discipline with at least 7 years of professional engineering experience. (1) (3) (See Note)Completed Assignments and Projects showing evidence of:Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems.
Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and engineering theory.
Knowledge of engineering designs, principles and practices.
Advanced knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, practices, and advanced engineering principles (2).Advanced knowledge of latest technologies necessary to perform a variety of specialized unique or complex assignments for various installation types of services. •
Note:
t are a limited number of personnel available in the industry with the required knowledge, ability and experience. (1) Master's degree in Engineering reduces the OJT experience requirement by 1 year. (2) License must be issued by the state in which you are practicing. (3) PE License reduces the OJT experience requirement by 1 year.Note:
Items (1) and (3) are mutually inclusive, wby the maximum experience requirement reduction is one (1) year (e.g., in the case of an employee with both a master's degree in Engineering AND a PE license, the minimum experience requirement would be reduced by one (1) year. Preferred QualificationsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate degree (1) or Graduate level work in Engineering, Business Administration or Project Management CertificationPossess Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification and/or Professional Engineer license (2) (3)1-3 years of professional supervisory experience and/or demonstrated ability to lead the work activity of others.Strong written and oral communication/presentation skills, report generation & technical writing skillsIndustry expert who participates or leads industry committees or working groups or has published technical documents.
Advanced experience in utility infrastructure, such as system analysis, planning, design coordination, standards development, or project execution.
A working knowledge of analysis software packages such as CYMDIST, PSS\E, Python, PLS-CAD, Pole Foreman, Power BI, or similar. Benefits Annual salary will vary based on a candidates skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $112,000.00/Yr. $154,000.00/Yr.
