Job Description

1. Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled Software Developer with strong hands-on experience in PostgreSQL (versions 9 through 15), including PostGIS extensions, to support development and administrative activities. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in Perl, Python and Java programming, GIS application development, and experience working with Tomcat clustering in enterprise environments. This role requires a collaborative professional with strong decision-making abilities and experience working in complex, mission-critical systems, including aerospace-related environments. 2. Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, optimize, and maintain PostgreSQL databases (versions 9-15), including PostGIS (2.x and 3.x).
  • Perform PostgreSQL database administration tasks such as performance tuning, backup and recovery, upgrades, and monitoring.
  • Develop and maintain applications and scripts using Perl and Python.
  • Build, enhance, and support GIS-enabled applications, including spatial data processing and analysis.
  • Develop and maintain Java-based applications deployed on Apache Tomcat.
  • Configure, manage, and support Tomcat clustering for high availability, scalability, and reliability.
  • Participate in application deployment activities across development, test, and production environments.
  • Use GitHub for source control, versioning, code reviews, and CI/CD workflows.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to plan, design, and deliver technical solutions.
  • Contribute to technical decision-making related to architecture, performance, and scalability.
  • Apply aerospace domain knowledge where applicable to support data integrity, precision, and compliance requirements.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, and best practices. 3. Required Skills & Knowledge
  • Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL (v9-v15) and PostGIS (2.x & 3.x) for both development and administration.
  • Strong Perl and Python programming skills.
  • Proven GIS programming experience, including spatial databases and geospatial data models.
  • Solid Java development experience.
  • Experience with Apache Tomcat, including Tomcat clustering.
  • Proficiency with GitHub for version control and team collaboration.
  • Experience with application deployment, release management, and environment coordination.
  • Strong team collaboration skills and the ability to work in agile or cross-functional teams.
  • Sound decision-making skills with the ability to evaluate trade-offs and risks.
  • Knowledge of aerospace systems or data domains is a strong plus.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills. 4. Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, GIS, or a related field (required).
  • 5-8 years of professional experience working with the technologies listed above.
