What Impact You'll MakeAs an Engineering Intern on the PCS team, you will be an active contributor to the development, testing, and validation of inverters, battery energy storage systems, and controls technologies that power next-generation AI datacenter infrastructure. The rapid growth of AI computing has created an unprecedented demand for reliable, high-density, and highly efficient power conversion systems. You will work directly on the products - including grid-scale inverters, energy storage systems, and advanced control platforms - that are at the center of meeting this demand. This internship sits at the intersection of power electronics engineering, controls systems, and one of the most dynamic technology sectors in the world. You will gain hands-on experience with real hardware and simulation tools in a professional engineering environment, collaborating with experienced engineers across design, test, and product development teams.

Job DescriptionWhat You'll Do (Job Responsibilities)Support the design, simulation, and validation of power conversion systems including grid-scale inverters, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and associated controls platforms intended for AI datacenter power applicationsAssist with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation testing and component-level testing of inverters, converters, and energy storage subsystems; support setup, execution, and data capture activitiesCollaborate with design engineers, controls engineers, compliance engineers, and technicians regarding hardware and software design for datacenter power systemsPerform electrical component sizing calculations and system-level modeling to support product development and validation activitiesReview and analyze test and commissioning data to identify performance trends, anomalies, and areas of concern; document findings clearly for team useAssist with the audit and improvement of installation, commissioning, and operation and maintenance (O&M) procedures for inverter and BESS productsAssist in developing and refining data collection methods, testing procedures, and documentation standards to support product verification and certification activitiesEnsure that procedures and test activities align with applicable industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company quality standardsWork with controls engineering teams to support tuning, testing, and validation of control algorithms for inverter and energy storage systemsContribute to a positive, collaborative, and innovative work environment; share findings and learnings with the broader teamWhat You'll Bring (Basic Qualifications)Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited college or universityMust be willing to work in the Niskayuna, NY geographical area as specified by the businessMust be willing to work in a lab and high-power test environment; adherence to all electrical safety and PPE requirements is mandatoryWhat Will Make You Stand Out (Desired Qualifications)Strong academic foundation in power electronics, power systems, and electrical and electronic engineering principlesFamiliarity with inverter and converter topologies, PWM techniques, and grid-connected power conversion conceptsUnderstanding of battery energy storage systems (BESS), battery management systems (BMS), and energy storage control systems (ESCS)Experience working in MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD, Python, or similar engineering design and simulation toolsUnderstanding of digital and analog circuit design principlesProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for technical documentation and reportingCuriosity and genuine interest in the intersection of power electronics and emerging technology sectors such as AI and high-performance computing infrastructureStrong problem-solving and analytical skills with a high degree of intellectual curiosityExcellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and technical staff at all levelsHighly self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervisionPrevious internship or co-op experience in a related engineering field is a plusDemonstrated leadership, teamwork orientation, and a willingness to learn from both successes and mistakesThe pay range for this position is $1,000-$2,000 USD weekly. Co-op/Interns will be reimbursed for reasonable, proper, and documented expenditures incurred while initially reporting to work and returning to school/home upon completion of the assignment. Employees with a permanent address greater than 50 miles away from the work location are eligible.
Housing Allowance:
Co-op/Interns employees receive a weekly housing allowance to help off-set living expenses when the co-op/Intern's permanent residence is at least 50 miles away from the work location.
