Job Title Applications Engineer Department Applications Reports To Head of Engineering FLSA Exempt Location Hamilton, OH Summary The Application Engineering role is multifaceted and serves important functions across several departments within the Salvagnini Group. Tasks will vary from time to time, but at the core of these assignments is the concept of technical competence for a given technology/technologies. This role will support our customers, sales & marketing teams, as well as our aftersales group. Developing and maintain competence in a given technology by working with experts locally and in Europe; as well as, staying current with changes and updates made by our production facilities and in the industry at large. This role requires becoming proficient in our proprietary software packages and supporting customers and technicians in their use. Additionally, testing new versions of software to ensure compatibility and gain competence in them prior to public release may be required. An Application Engineers work is dynamic, challenging, and rewarding. Outside-the-box thinking, technical aptitude, and attention to detail are important traits for a successful candidate in this role. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Hereafter is a non-exhaustive list of an Application Engineers tasks: Complete time & feasibility studies of a customer's product(s) utilizing Salvagnini's proprietary software packages. Support sales team in determining the correct machine, production methodologies, sizing, options, etc. given a customer's production requirements. Cross-functional work with Campus team to produce samples to validate study results. Cross-functional work with Campus team to prepare and execute machine demonstrations. Cross-functional work with Software team to test and validate new software. Support Salvagnini customers and internal personnel, with technical support; including but not limited to programming support, design suggestions, manufacturability issues, capabilities/specifications, troubleshooting, etc. Participate in technical seminars in the US and Europe. Participate in industry trade shows when necessary. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Personal Care Application Engineers may at times work directly with customers in person, as such a tidy appearance, good hygiene, and proper work attire are required. Accuracy Deliver accurate and technically correct results and solutions. Ability to interpret computational analyses into their corresponding mechanical processes. Education and/or Experience Associate degree in mechanical engineering, or related STEM field. Equivalent job-related experience working with CNC automated manufacturing equipment will also be considered. Strong computer skills required. Proficiency in Microsoft office applications required. Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills required. Previous experience in the machine tool industry preferred. Experience in Manufacturing or
CAD-CAM/CNC
programming preferred. Experience in AutoCAD and SolidWorks preferred. Experience with OPS a plus Experience with
OPC - UA
a plus Sheet metal experience a plus. Salvagnini product knowledge a plus. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Travel Frequent US and occasional international travel will be required, up to 20%, including weekends. You must possess or be able to obtain a valid passport. The individual must possess a valid driver's license, pass a motor vehicle record check, and have the unrestricted ability to obtain rental vehicles. Mathematical Skills A solid understanding of mathematics, including both algebraic (add, subtract, multiply, divide, etc.) and geometric (area, surface area, volume, etc.) are required. Familiarity with both metric and imperial systems of measure. Ability to read and calculate rates, ratios, percentages, and the ability to interpret and produce graphical representations thereof. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed and involved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. The ability to recognize and evaluate technical issues and limitations is required. The ability to define and manage expectations is critical. The ability to make sound decisions and actions is required. Physical Requirements Candidate must have the ability to lift 50 lbs. without restrictions. Walking distances, transporting bags or cases through the Customer's location is required. Climbing steps and ladders, working in areas offering tight access is required. Direct Reports This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
