Job Description

Application Engineer Westlake, OH Competitive Salary and Benefits The Application Engineer serves as a key technical expert supporting internal teams and external customers across the materials testing product line. This role partners with Sales, Marketing, and customers to provide hands-on technical support, product demonstrations, application development, and training. The ideal candidate combines strong materialographic expertise with presentation skills, a structured problem-solving approach, and a passion for educating customers.
Application Engineer Responsibilities:
Provide technical and application support for materials testing equipment to internal and external customers. Prepare and evaluate customer samples and develop preparation procedures and best practices. Conduct product demonstrations in-house, on-site at customer facilities, at trade shows, and via virtual platforms such as WebEx. Deliver technical training programs for customers and internal teams. Develop and implement educational training materials and courses. Support Sales in technical discussions and opportunity conversion. Present technical content through webinars, conferences, workshops, and industry events. Assist customers in troubleshooting and resolving quality issues. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean activities such as 5S.
Application Engineer Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience. Experience with materialographic sample preparation and microscopy required. Experience with hardness testing and/or image analysis software preferred. Familiarity with ISO and ASTM standards, including
ISO 17025, ASTM
E10, E18, and
E92/E384.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other technical software applications. Strong presentation and product demonstration skills, both in person and virtually. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Structured, analytical, and collaborative problem-solving approach. Clean driving record and ability to travel domestically and internationally, including overnight travel. #INDETM
