POSITION SUMMARY
The Integration Engineer III on the Platform Products & Services (PPS) team is responsible for the full lifecycle of core data integration platform products and services. This includes designing, developing, testing, maintaining, and troubleshooting data integration and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) solutions that are reliable, scalable, and secure. This role plays a key part in supporting company growth and improving productivity by delivering strategic integration capabilities—utilizing platforms such as Boomi and Sterling Commerce EDI—to ensure data flows reliably and accurately between operational and analytical systems. The engineer will work closely with the Business Products & Services (BPS) teams to gather requirements, align on technical integration solutions, and deliver foundational data pipelines and EDI transactions that meet business objectives within scope and deadlines.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
30% - Solution Development Developing and configuring middleware components involves hands-on work with enterprise integration platforms to build reliable data pipelines. According to the sources, this includes:
Building Seamless Integrations:
Designing, developing, and implementing data solutions primarily using integration platform tools, cloud hosting tools, event management tools/triggers, AI platforms, and API gateways
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Working closely with business partners and cross-functional teams to gather business requirements, translate them into technical specifications, and prioritize the product backlog for foundational technology
Quality Assurance:
Conducting code reviews and ensuring software quality through rigorous testing and debugging
Product Ownership:
Driving a product ownership culture where the engineer takes accountability for the foundational services they build, utilizing appropriate management tools to meet the company's business needs 25% - Operational Excellence & Service Delivery Provide technical support and maintenance for existing integrations. Collaborate cross-functionally to analyze logs, debug code (e.g., JavaScript, APIs), analyze message formats, and resolve complex incidents, analyze root causes, and manage problems proactively using tools like ServiceNow or Jira Master Agile methodologies and robust service management frameworks (e.g., ITIL). Act as a clear, constructive communicator with supervisors and stakeholders to ensure a seamless customer experience Establish, monitor, and report on service level agreements and key performance indicators to ensure the operational health of foundational products. Utilize cloud-based logging and platform monitoring tools to maintain full visibility across the integration ecosystem Drive process optimization by automating repetitive tasks, proactively suggesting service enhancements, and thoroughly documenting and sharing solutions via documentation platforms Maintain a current understanding of emerging trends, industry best practices, and operations in data engineering, products and integrations to continuously evolve the company's foundational technology 20% - Solution Architecture, Governance & Strategy Provide insight and help champion the vision, strategy, and roadmap for core data integration platforms (e.g., Boomi, Sterling Commerce EDI, and AWS/Snowflake technologies) to ensure they effectively support BPS teams' data delivery needs Define and architect scalable integration solutions and API-led connectivity, ensuring alignment with the Les Schwab Enterprise Architecture framework and modern integration patterns Evaluate architectural options for addressing business needs through foundational technology improvements Define, document, and govern standards, policies, and development guidelines for implementing data integration and EDI solutions across federated developer teams Ensure documentation of enterprise artifacts related to platform products and assist Enterprise Architecture in artifact management Champion a culture of security and compliance as a core feature of all foundational products, ensuring adherence to cybersecurity policies and regulatory requirements 15% - Team Collaboration & Self-Improvement Actively participate in team discussions, contribute to a collaborative environment, and share knowledge with other team members Pursue professional development, continuing education, approved training, and certifications to enhance expertise in product management, software development, and integration technologies 10% - Mentoring Mentor and provide guidance to junior team members on product-centric approaches and technical best practices
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Educational/Experience Requirements:
Four-year college degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or an additional 2 years of technical experience Minimum of 7 years' IT experience in software development, integration, platform services or data engineering with a focus on enterprise solutions
Required Technical Skills/Knowledge:
Exhibiting a strong breadth and depth of experience and knowledge in all areas of data integrations and implementation, with a focus on foundational automation, resiliency and quality Advanced level of knowledge with the development lifecycle Advanced level of experience with enterprise application integration (EAI), API management, and data integration patterns Ability to resolve complex technical challenges and manage risk within a dynamic environment A "systems thinking" approach to understanding the interplay between foundational platforms and business-facing applications Advanced level of experience combing through logs and troubleshooting Advanced level of experience in the composition of SQL Advanced level of experience with performance tuning for integrations and SQL Advanced level of experience with creating automated testing Advanced level of experience producing written documentation such as data dictionaries, data catalogues, and integration data maps Advanced level of experience with a programming language such as Python, R, JavaScript, Java C#, Go, or similar Advanced level of experience working with flat file data formats including delimited files, XML, and JSON Advanced level of experience using solution delivery collaboration software such as Service Now, Jira, TFS, or similar
Physical Requirements:
Primarily desk position; regularly required to sit, occasionally required to stand and walk. Requires frequent and repetitive use of hands and fingers to operate computer, mouse, keyboard, and office related equipment and the ability to reach with hands and arms. Position requires lifting no more than 10 pounds on a regular basis. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close visual acuity and the ability to adjust focus. Requires the ability to communicate verbally and exchange information over the phone and in person
Work Environment:
Office, non-manual work; the worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Working on-call is required for this position, including but not limited to: evenings, weekends, and holidays
