Full-Time; Permanent About the Role Zero Touch Metrology, part of Sandvik, is seeking an Applications Engineer to join our growing engineering team. In this role, you will support the development and execution of advanced metrology capabilities for Zero Touch™ systems. This role provides expertise in both contact and non-contact metrology, develops inspection strategies, and performs statistical and dimensional analysis of customer parts. The position serves as a technical expert and mentor, collaborates with engineering teams to resolve measurement deviations, and converts measurement data into actionable insights that improve product quality and system performance. What You'll Do Metrology & Analysis Develop and execute inspection strategies and Design of Experiments (DOE) Perform statistical analysis, measurement system analysis (MSA), and R&R studies Measure and validate dimensional data using contact and non-contact tools Analyze measurement results against customer, internal, and industry standards Identify root causes of measurement deviations and recommend corrective actions Apply scientific methods to document assumptions, hypotheses, and conclusions Act as technical liaison and prepare performance and capability reports Programming & Systems Develop CMM programs, inspection routines, macros, and reporting tools Define inspection protocols and coordinate systems based on CAD models Create 3D measurement references and inspection data using CAD tools Evaluate sensor performance and recommend improvements Support system development, debugging, and release, including functional and factory acceptance testing (FAT) Support integration, testing, and debugging of systems Participate in system and equipment design and continuous improvement Supervise installation and ensure systems meet performance specifications Contribute to user manuals, technical documentation, and training materials Provide cross-functional technical support and training What We're Looking For Technical Expertise Strong foundation in precision dimensional metrology Deep knowledge of GD&T, calibration, measurement uncertainty, MSA, and statistics Experience with contact and non-contact metrology systems: CMMs, profilometers, interferometry, structured light, laser triangulation, LVDTs, chromatic confocal, capacitive sensors Proficiency in metrology and 3D analysis software: Metrolog X4, PC-DMIS, Calypso, PolyWorks, ATOS (GOM), Ability to generate inspection data from CAD models (SolidWorks preferred) Experience with CNC machines or advanced capital equipment Strong analytical and mathematical skills (geometry, trigonometry, statistics) Software & Tools Proficiency with MS Office (advanced Excel required) Experience with version control (Git, SVN, etc.) Basic programming knowledge (C#, C++, PLCs) is a plus Professional Skills Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills High attention to detail and accuracy Ability to multitask and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work with limited direction Effective collaborator and technical lead Additional Requirements Availability for periodic travel up to ~25% Valid driver's license, passport, and ability to travel Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent) 3-6+ years of relevant experience, including: 2+ years in applications engineering 3+ years developing metrology inspection strategies 3+ years working with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor) Experience in CMM and metrology environments preferred
