Job Title:
Application Engineer Job Description The Application Engineer drives revenue growth within assigned accounts by building strong customer relationships, uncovering new business opportunities, and delivering value-driven technical and commercial solutions aligned with customer needs. This role serves as the primary commercial point of contact, partnering closely with internal teams to provide technical insight, service support, and strategic account planning while maintaining a high level of responsiveness and professionalism. Responsibilities Manage and grow assigned accounts by identifying, developing, and closing new sales opportunities. Conduct regular in-person customer visits across Southern California and supplement these with virtual meetings as needed to maintain strong engagement. Develop a deep understanding of each assigned customer, including their business objectives, operational needs, applications, technologies, and market trends. Identify key decision-makers and stakeholders within customer organizations and build strong, influential relationships at multiple levels. Analyze the competitive landscape and positioning to support effective account strategy and differentiation. Act as the customer advocate by coordinating internal resources to address sales, service, and technical needs promptly and effectively. Collaborate within a team-based sales environment to connect customers with appropriate internal subject matter experts. Identify, document, and clearly communicate measurable value-added activities delivered to customers. Create and execute structured account plans for targeted customers, including revenue forecasting, growth initiatives, and opportunity management. Deliver on-site product and application training to end users and customer teams as required. Maintain accurate and up-to-date activity, opportunity, and forecast information in CRM and sales systems. Provide customers with high levels of service, product knowledge, and technical and commercial insights related to applications, markets, and businesses. Support new product development and introduction by gathering customer feedback and identifying emerging application needs. Apply strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address customer challenges and propose effective solutions. Communicate clear, customer-specific value propositions in both written and verbal formats. Work independently to manage territory priorities while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a Technical Discipline, Business, or a related field. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a customer-facing role such as Account Manager, Outside Sales, Applications Engineering, Technical Sales, or a similar position. Proven experience supporting industrial, technical, or engineered products or services. Solid understanding of opportunity management and structured sales processes. Strong technical aptitude with the ability to understand and discuss applications, technologies, and market trends. Ability to clearly and effectively communicate customer-specific value propositions. Strong customer focus with a high level of responsiveness and solution-oriented support. Effective communication skills, including active listening and concise written and verbal communication. Professional presence with the ability to build rapport and influence at multiple organizational levels. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a team-based environment. Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with CRM and enterprise business systems such as Salesforce, SAP, or Oracle (preferred). Willingness to travel extensively within the assigned territory, with minimal overnight travel. Ability to work in industrial or customer site environments, including standing, walking, climbing, and maneuvering around equipment. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and access to a registered, insured vehicle. Ability to meet background screening requirements. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in business development and account management within technical or industrial markets. background in applications engineering, technical sales, or new product development. Demonstrated ability to provide high levels of product knowledge and technical and commercial insight to customers. Strong attention to detail combined with a sense of urgency in managing customer needs and sales activities. Comfort presenting and delivering on-site product and application training to end users. Ability to document and communicate measurable value-added activities in a clear and structured manner. Work Environment This is a fully remote role that offers flexibility while maintaining a high level of field engagement. The position involves at least three days of travel per week within the assigned territory, primarily across Southern California, with minimal overnight stays. You will spend a significant portion of your time visiting industrial and customer site environments, which may require standing, walking, climbing, and maneuvering around equipment, as well as occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. You will use standard business technology tools, including Microsoft Office, CRM platforms such as Salesforce and enterprise systems such as SAP or Oracle, along with virtual collaboration tools like Microsoft Teams.
