Type:

full-time Full-Stack Software Engineer - NYC (Remote possible for the right person) Ninety percent of scientific experiments never make it to publication. Failed runs. Abandoned hypotheses. Routine characterization data that lives in a researcher's head and three scattered notebooks. Decades of it, sitting in drawers, teaching nobody anything. My client is a Y Combinator-backed startup that decided to go get it. They capture that lost experimental data at the source, structure it into a queryable lab brain, and use it to help researchers discover the materials that will power the next industrial revolution. They're already working hands-on with their first cohort of university lab partners. They're hiring a Full-Stack Software Engineer to build the next-generation electronic lab notebook and research platform. What makes this different from every other full stack role in your inbox: You work directly with the founders. The team is tiny. Everyone ships product and talks to researchers. You build it, then you watch actual scientists use it , then you make it better. Feedback in days, not quarters. The roadmap is genuinely interesting - experiment planning, lab inventory, Jupyter-integrated data analysis, digitizing handwritten lab notebooks into structured records, and eventually spectroscopy analysis and chemistry-specific tooling. $160,000 - $180,000 base, plus a real equity stake of 0.10% - 0.25%. You own a piece of what you build. New York City office. Remote is open for the right person. What they're looking for: 3+ years shipping production web applications end to end Strong with React / Next.js, TypeScript, Python, PostgreSQL, and AWS You've built products from scratch on a small, fast-moving team, worked independently, and biased toward speed Background at an AI-for-science company, a tech company, or a startup Nice to have: mobile development, AI-powered applications, scientific software, or developer tools experience. US work authorization required. This client is not sponsoring for this role. Here's who I think actually wins this job: an engineer who started in science and moved into software. Chemistry, physics, materials, biology - you did the labs, you kept the notebooks, you know exactly how broken the tooling is. For you, this isn't a job posting. It's the thing you wish someone had built for you. If that's you, or you know that person, let's talk.
