KBR's Science and Space division is seeking a Software Engineer/Web Developer to support our Technical Support Services Contract (TSSC) at the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation & Science (EROS) Center ( http://eros.usgs.gov/ ) near Sioux Falls, SD ( http://www.siouxfalls.org ). This position is for an entry to mid-level Software Engineer with a Web Development background to join our talented team in creating exciting, cutting-edge web-based mapping tools for Science projects that serve a variety of communities including wildland fire management, drought monitoring, and land cover mapping.
Position Summary Title:
Full Stack Software Engineer Responsibilities Develop and maintain websites and mapping applications for visualizing and distributing geospatial data. Develop Python scripts that produce geospatial data products. Support a diverse array of technologies including, but not limited to PHP, Python, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and XML. Interact with a skilled web development team that supports the
USGS EROS
Integrated Science Applications Branch. Minimum Requirements This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain credentials for facility access and user accounts
Education:
Must minimally hold a software engineering or computer science bachelor's degree
Years of Experience:
Must have minimum 3-5 years of recent and related work experience Experience with web design, administration, and database-driven applications Experience with JavaScript frameworks (such as React, Jquery, OpenLayers and Leaflet), and strong proficiency with
HTML/CSS
Experience with Python and PHP Experience with databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) Experience with security concepts Experience with collaboration software Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Well versed in software engineering methodology and processes Areas of Desired Experience & Skills Familiarity with a cloud provider/concepts (like AWS or Azure) Familiarity with Kubernetes or other container knowledge Familiarity with requirements and design analysis Experience with testing and configuration management tools such as Git Experience with geospatial tools (commercial or open source), including analysis, visualization, or data handling workflows Knowledge of OGC standards (WMS, WFS, WCS, WPS) and OGC APIs Familiarity with projections, reference systems, and spatial data transformations Experience and/or Education in lieu of these qualifications will be reviewed for applicability to meet these requirements. Work Location This position supports a team anchored in Sioux Falls, SD , and is offered in a hybrid remote/onsite work environment. Fully remote work will be considered for the right candidate. Three years of continuous residency in the US for issuance of a Government Security credential is required.
