Job Description
Working/Functional Title Health Promotion Generalist Position Summary The Health Promotion Generalist (Resilience & Wellbeing) advances a comprehensive, population-level approach to wellbeing across students, faculty, and staff. Guided by the principles of the Okanagan Charter, this role supports initiatives that embed health into campus culture, policies, environments, and everyday practices. The Generalist leads and supports health promotion and resilience-focused initiatives designed to strengthen protective factors such as connection, purpose, coping skills, and community belonging. Through collaboration with campus partners, the position helps integrate wellbeing into teaching, learning, work environments, and institutional systems. This role contributes to a strategic, evidence-informed approach to fostering a resilient campus community at a large public research institution. Please note this is a two-year fixed term hybrid position with the expectation of two non-consecutive remote days per week and three in-person days in East Lansing. Key Responsibilities Resilience & Wellbeing Strategy Develop and implement initiatives that promote resilience, coping skills, and adaptive wellbeing for students, faculty, and staff. Support institution-wide strategies that build protective factors such as social connection, belonging, purpose, and meaning. Integrate resilience and wellbeing principles into campus systems, policies, and practices. Campus-Wide Health Promotion Plan and deliver evidence-informed programs addressing stress management, emotional wellbeing, burnout prevention, and healthy coping. Contribute to health promotion initiatives that advance individual and community wellbeing through education, skill development, supportive environments, campus partnerships, and policy-informed strategies. Apply public health and socioecological frameworks to support population-level wellbeing efforts. Education & Capacity Building Facilitate workshops, trainings, and skill-building sessions for students, faculty, and staff. Develop educational materials and resources that support resilience and sustainable wellbeing practices. Build capacity across campus by equipping departments, units, and student organizations with tools to support wellbeing. Partnership & Collaboration Collaborate with academic units, student affairs departments, human resources, and other institutional partners to advance a health-promoting campus environment. Engage peer educators, student leaders, and campus partners in co-creating resilience initiatives. Contribute to interdisciplinary collaborations that strengthen a culture of wellbeing. Assessment & Evaluation Collect and analyze data to assess program impact and inform continuous improvement. Utilize campus wellbeing data, national surveys, and evidence-based practices to guide program development and strategic planning. Contribute to institutional reporting and benchmarking related to campus wellbeing initiatives. Minimum Requirements Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in public health, health promotion, health education, psychology, social work, higher education, or a related field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in the design, development and presentation of instructional programs using software or tools related to the educational programs being conducted; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience delivering health promotion, wellbeing, or resilience-focused programming. Knowledge of population health approaches and health promotion frameworks. Demonstrated ability to facilitate trainings and engage diverse audiences. Desired Qualifications Master's degree in public health, health promotion, higher education, counseling, or a related field. Experience working in a university or large organizational setting. Familiarity with the principles of the Okanagan Charter and health-promoting campus models. Experience with program evaluation, survey data, or population-level wellbeing assessment.
