Primary Responsibilities:
Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain scalable, secure, and high‑quality software solutions supporting core business initiatives such as Prepare for Next Year (PFNY) Own complex technical components and services, exercising independent judgment in design, implementation, and operational decisions Implement and evolve future‑state architectures that enable a single, reusable content model across web and mobile platforms, improving consistency, scalability, and maintainability Develop and maintain full‑stack solutions using React, Node.js, and Java, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture standards and best practices Drive technical design and architecture discussions, including API design, data flows, and integration patterns, balancing immediate delivery with long‑term platform health Build and enhance CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment processes to support reliable, repeatable releases and strong operational outcomes Apply AI‑builder practices by leveraging AI‑assisted development tools and techniques to improve developer productivity, code quality, testing, documentation, and solution design Identify and implement opportunities where AI‑enabled capabilities can enhance system efficiency, operational excellence, or end‑user experience Partner closely with product, UX, content, and platform teams to translate business requirements into well‑architected technical solutions Participate in and lead code reviews, design reviews, and technical discussions, raising engineering standards and ensuring adherence to quality, security, and compliance requirements Support operational excellence, including monitoring, incident response, root‑cause analysis, and continuous improvement of system reliability and performance Provide senior‑level technical leadership through mentorship, knowledge sharing, and guidance, contributing to the growth and effectiveness of the engineering team Leverage enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, automate tasks, and drive continuous improvement You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear directions on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or IT or Engineering field 5+ years of experience building full-stack applications with React front ends and Node.js/Java backends 4+ years of experience with HTML CSS and Typescript 3+ years of prior experience mentoring engineers, leading technical initiatives, or owning complex system components end-to-end
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with feature flags, experimentation platforms, or progressive delivery practices Experience identifying opportunities where AI can improve developer productivity, system reliability, or end-user experience Demonstrated experience using AI tools as part of the software development lifecycle (e.g., coding assistants, test generation, refactoring, documentation, or design support) Exposure to observability tooling (logging, metrics, tracing) and operational excellence practices Familiarity with cloud-native architectures and containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes, or equivalent) Ability to build, integrate, or consume AI-powered features or services, such as LLM-backed APIs, intelligent automation, or data-driven decision components Strong understanding of prompt engineering concepts, AI-assisted development workflows, and responsible AI considerations (security, privacy, and bias awareness) Comfort working in an AI-first engineering culture, where experimentation, iteration, and continuous learning are expected •All Telecommuters will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable. Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
