Senior Java Engineer (Contract 2 Hire | 100% REMOTE)
Senior Engineer Overview We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to lead the design, development, and modernization of enterprise software solutions. This individual will work independently and collaboratively to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions while influencing technology strategy, engineering standards, and DevOps practices across multiple teams.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in Java development, cloud technologies, microservices architecture, event-driven systems, and CI/CD automation. Success in this role requires strong technical leadership, mentoring capabilities, and the ability to communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Solution Design & Architecture Design scalable and resilient enterprise software solutions. Partner with architects, product owners, and engineering leaders on strategic initiatives. Define system integration patterns and technical roadmaps. Evaluate and recommend technologies that improve product performance and delivery. Software Development Lead development of complex and business-critical applications. Build and maintain microservices and event-driven architectures. Establish development frameworks, coding standards, and reusable components. Solve complex technical challenges through data-driven decision making. DevOps & Engineering Excellence Promote and expand CI/CD adoption. Drive improvements to software delivery speed, reliability, and automation. Lead critical incident resolution and root cause analysis. Champion engineering best practices and operational excellence. Collaboration & Leadership Collaborate across multiple product and engineering teams. Mentor and coach engineers on software design, coding practices, and problem-solving. Help decompose work and support technical planning activities. Communicate technical concepts effectively to stakeholders at all levels. Required Qualifications 10+ years of Java and Spring Framework experience 5+ years working with relational and NoSQL databases (SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDB, etc.) 3+ years building microservices architectures 3+ years utilizing GitHub, DevOps tooling, and CI/CD practices 3+ years of data analysis and data sourcing experience 2+ years using OpenShift and event-driven technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ Technical Skills Java Spring Boot OpenShift Kafka AWS Azure MongoDB DynamoDB SQL Databases GitHub Actions Bitbucket CI/CD Pipelines Microservices Event-Driven Architecture DevOps Practices Preferred Characteristics Strong communication and stakeholder management skills Ability to mentor and develop engineers Passion for continuous learning and technical innovation Experience improving engineering maturity and delivery practices Ability to balance work across multiple systems and initiatives Strategic mindset focused on long-term sustainable solutions Beacon Hill is an equal opportunity employer and individuals with disabilities and/or protected veterans are encouraged to apply.
