This role is four days onsite at our Wilmington, DE location, with the flexibility to work from home one day per week
Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer with deep experience in the area of Wealth/Trust to join our engineering team . In this role, you will work to enhance and support the Trust Reporting (TRS/WSE) systems and play a key role in continuing the modernization of our mainframe ecosystem. You'll collaborate closely with senior technical leaders, contribute to new development and system enhancements, and help advance the continued modernization of our DevOps and automation capabilities on the mainframe.
Primary Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain high quality solutions and batch processes Work extensively with
JCL, JSCAN, EZTRIEVE, VSAM, TSO
Utilities, CA7,AUTOMIC, FILEAID, XPEDITER, COBOL and
ABEND-AID.
Own delivery of features and enhancements within the Wealth Trust platform, ensuring quality, completeness, and adherence to requirements. Ensure solutions align with SDLC practices, deployment processes, and environment promotion standards. (PANAPT, Service Now) Provide mentorship and guidance to junior developers, including support of development, debugging, and workflow implementation. Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing sessions to promote best practices and continuous improvement. Collaborate with Product Owners, Architects, and Business Partners to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions. Contribute to workflow and process improvements, identifying opportunities to streamline manual steps and improve user experience. Assist in the design and implementation of integrations with internal systems as part of broader solutions. Validate functionality through testing and troubleshooting, ensuring workflows execute as intended across environments. Monitor and support workflow execution and operational performance, addressing issues and improving reliability over time. Document solutions, configurations, and patterns to support team knowledge and maintainability. Communicate progress, challenges, and technical decisions effectively to team members and stakeholders. Promote a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and engineering quality.

Strong understanding of batch processing, data flows, and performance tuning. Proven ability to troubleshoot complex system issues in large-scale environments. Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Education and Experience Required:
Associate's degree and a minimum of 5 years' systems analysis and/ or application development work experience or Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years' systems analysis and/ or application development work experience. In lieu of degree, a combined minimum of 7 years' education and/or relevant work experience, including a minimum of 3 years' systems analysis and/or application development work experience Advanced proficiency in minimum of 1 relevant programming language.
Education and Experience Preferred:
5+ years of hands-on experience and demonstrated proficiency as a software engineer in both development and applications support roles. Experience contributing to or setting up DevOps/CI/CD pipelines for mainframe workloads (e.g., Git, SonarQube, SonarLint, ADDI, Ansible). Familiarity with IBM's zDIH or other mainframe modernization and integration technologies. Exposure to cloud integration, API enablement, and/or data virtualization initiatives. Background in Financial services, Wealth Trust, or other high‑availability industries. M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $97,100.00 - $161,800.00 (USD). The successful candidate's particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
