Its local controllers continue operating when internet connectivity is unavailable, so reliability and security are essential. The Role We're looking for a mid- to senior-level software engineer to develop and support the Linux-based controller at the core of our platform. Working with our Backend Controller Architect, you'll build controller features, integrate devices and services, and improve reliability across software, networks, and cloud-connected systems. Remote work is available for a senior candidate. We prefer someone based in Central Washington or the Dallas area. This role includes a 24/7 on-call rotation for critical production incidents. Responsibilities Build and maintain Python applications and services on Linux. Develop REST APIs, database services, and reusable integration frameworks. Integrate third-party devices, software, and cloud services. Troubleshoot issues across software, networks, databases, devices, and cloud services. Improve monitoring, logging, recovery, testing, and diagnostic tools. Participate in design and code reviews, release validation, and technical documentation. Respond to critical incidents, find root causes, and help prevent repeat problems. Example projects include door-status alerts, communications directories, audio-stream support, and tools for controller deployment and remote support. Required Qualifications Professional software development experience, with strong Python skills. Experience with REST APIs, databases, AWS, and Linux. Understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, and TLS. Experience troubleshooting production or distributed systems. Ability to build maintainable, testable, fault-tolerant software. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively. Willingness to participate in on-call coverage and respond promptly to critical incidents. Preferred Qualifications Experience with edge computing, IoT, embedded systems, third-party integrations, audio streaming, event-driven systems, Linux deployments, automated testing, or high-availability products.
