Job Description
Software Engineer, Image Acquisition, Hybrid Boulder, CO We're seeking a Software Engineer, Image Acquisition, to help expand and refine Imatest's image acquisition and device control capabilities. This role focuses on building reliable software for connecting cameras and related hardware to the Imatest ecosystem, including SDK integrations, acquisition workflows, device control, and cross-platform support. You'll work closely with our imaging science, hardware, and software teams to integrate a wide range of imaging systems, including industrial cameras, scientific sensors, and embedded imaging platforms, with our analysis tools. This is a strong fit for an engineer who enjoys working at the boundary between software and hardware and is motivated by building practical, robust tools for real-world imaging applications.
Job Location:
Hybrid, Boulder, CO Responsibilities Design, implement, and maintain software components related to image acquisition, device control, and hardware integration in the Imatest ecosystem Integrate new camera SDKs, interfaces, and related hardware technologies Develop modular APIs and abstraction layers for consistent acquisition and device control across vendors and platforms Implement reliable capture pipelines, image buffering, and related performance-critical software for demanding imaging workflows Collaborate with imaging scientists and other engineers to support camera-triggered acquisition, automation, and analysis workflows Contribute to architectural decisions around device discovery, session management, configuration persistence, and software maintainability Work with UI/UX developers to extend and improve device configuration interfaces within Imatest tools Write and maintain documentation, example code, tests, and developer-facing resources for new integrations and features Support debugging and troubleshooting of complex hardware/software interactions across customer and internal use cases Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Imaging Science, or a related field 3+ years of experience developing software for imaging, hardware integration, or related technical systems Proficiency in C++ and Python Experience with at least one camera SDK or comparable hardware/software integration environment Strong understanding of API design, debugging, testing, and general software engineering practices Familiarity with multithreading, memory management, and performance-oriented development Experience with version control tools such as Git Ability to work effectively across disciplines with software, hardware, and imaging teams Authorization to work in the United States Preferred Qualifications Experience with cross-platform development across Windows, macOS, and/or Linux Experience with GenICam / GenTL, DirectShow, GStreamer, or similar frameworks Experience with MATLAB Knowledge of image processing and/or computer vision libraries such as OpenCV Familiarity with trigger synchronization, lighting control, and/or multi-device imaging systems Understanding of RAW image formats, ISP pipelines, and/or sensor calibration workflows Experience with embedded imaging systems, scientific imaging systems, or industrial camera applications Familiarity with video encodings, streaming formats, ffmpeg, or related media tooling Experience reading technical hardware documentation such as SDK docs, interface specs, or sensor data sheets Experience with AI-assisted development Why Join Imatest Contribute to the global standard in image quality measurement Collaborate with a small, highly capable team of imaging scientists and engineers Work on challenging technical problems at the intersection of software, hardware, and imaging science Help shape tools used across a wide range of imaging industries and applications Company Benefits Health insurance (medical, dental, and vision for individual or family) Telemedicine / Teledoc Long- and short-term disability Paid time off, sick leave, and scheduled holidays 401(k) plan with 3% company contribution Life insurance Flexible spending accountFitness Benefit Salary Range:
