Position Summary:

This role focuses on hands-on development and integration of POS peripherals and payment systems, ensuring stable, high-performing device interactions across store lanes. You will operate at the intersection of store systems, device integration, and real-time transaction processing, building and supporting solutions that directly impact checkout reliability at scale. The role requires strong technical depth in hardware-software integration, API-driven architectures, and production support in high-volume environments. This position also leverages modern engineering practices, including AI-assisted development tools and automation, to improve code quality, accelerate delivery, and enhance troubleshooting efficiency. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain POS peripheral and payment integration components across devices such as payment terminals (e.g., Verifone/Ingenico), barcode scanners (e.g., Honeywell/Zebra/Symbol), printers, cash drawers, and SCO weighing systems Build and enhance Java/Spring Boot-based services and microservices supporting real-time device communication and store lane workflows Develop and support API-driven integrations enabling seamless connectivity between POS, payment processors, and backend systems Utilize AI-assisted coding tools and modern development accelerators to improve development efficiency, code quality, and issue resolution Work closely with device manufacturers and vendors to troubleshoot issues, validate fixes, and support driver, firmware, or SDK-level integrations Perform deep troubleshooting across device, application, and integration layers, including logs, connectivity, performance, and stability issues Support production deployments, monitoring, and store rollouts, including off-hours support during critical release windows Contribute to observability and operational readiness, including Splunk dashboards, alerting, and troubleshooting runbooks Maintain clear visibility into assigned deliverables, risks, and dependencies, ensuring consistent and predictable execution Create and maintain technical documentation and integration playbooks for long-term maintainability and operational efficiency Required Qualifications 5+ years of software development experience with strong focus on POS systems, device/peripheral integration, and payment systems Strong hands-on expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and microservices-based architectures Proven experience integrating retail POS peripherals and payment terminals (e.g., Verifone, Ingenico, Honeywell, Zebra/Symbol or equivalent) Experience building and supporting API-driven enterprise applications in distributed environments Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, device communication layers, and backend services Experience working in production environments, including monitoring, debugging, and performance tuning Experience collaborating with external vendors and third-party providers for integration and issue resolution Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., code generation, debugging assistants, automation tools) Preferred Qualifications Experience with retail POS platforms (e.g., ToshibaPOS,OmniStore or similar) Familiarity with Splunk or similar observability tools for log analysis and monitoring Experience with cloud-native development (AWS), Docker, and CI/CD pipelines Exposure to PCI-compliant or security-aware development practices Understanding of payment processing flows and EMV concepts Education Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience) Anticipated Weekly Hours 40 Time Type Full time Pay Range The typical pay range for this role is: $101,970.00 - $203,940.00 This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. Our people fuel our future.
