REQUIRED SKILLS:
o Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. o 2+ years of experience in software integration, development, or testing, preferably in radar systems or embedded systems. o Experience with high-level programming languages such as C++ or Java. o Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Perl, or bash. o Experience with Linux and the command line interface. o Experience with software debugging and troubleshooting tools (e.g., GDB, Wireshark, etc.). o Experience with version control systems like Jira, Git or Rational Clearcase. o Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
JOB DESCRIPTION
software integration engineer to join our team supporting the SPY-6 Family of Radars. The ideal candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust, high-performance radar software solutions. This role involves integrating, testing, and troubleshooting radar software to ensure optimal system performance in various operating environments. • What are the main functions of this role? o Assist in software integration and testing under the guidance of senior engineers. o Conduct basic software integration, system testing, and debugging in shipyard environment o Execute test plans, procedures, and scripts to validate radar software functionality and performance. o Analyze and resolve software/hardware interface issues during software integration. o Document integration processes, test results, and troubleshooting steps to ensure knowledge transfer and system traceability. o Support field installations and trials, as necessary, to ensure successful system deployment. •
Desired Skill Sets:
o Familiarity with radar systems, signal processing, or real-time systems. o Experience with Agile software development methodologies. o Familiarity with DevOps tools and practices, including CI/CD pipelines. o Knowledge of hardware/software integration processes, particularly with radar or sensor systems. o Experience with MATLAB or other data analysis tools. •
Education Level Required:
o Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Additional Job Details:
• How will the contractor's success be measured? o Contractor works independently with minimal reach back support on daily tasking o Contractor knows when more complicated issues require SME intervention o Supporting team to accomplish test criteria and ensure safe execution during integration and test events o Support team and hardware during capability development/testing o Working well in a high stress dynamic team environment • Culture o The contractor will be part of a small waterfront team, where they will work collaboratively with RTX team members to achieve the daily and weekly tasking. In most cases, this person will be the primary person with the software skillset and will be filling this key role at the location. o Work at Newport News, VA (an industrial shipyard) can be up to 60 hours a week, usually Monday - Friday. This work schedule can be highly dynamic due to dependencies on ship construction. Additionally, work is cyclical based on ship construction timelines, which can range from 14 months to 24 months. There is shift work, and potential for week-end work.
