Job Description
Description Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity. Amazon Leo is building a next-generation satellite constellation to deliver fast, reliable broadband connectivity around the world. Achieving that mission requires engineers who thrive on solving complex, multidisciplinary problems and delivering hardware that performs flawlessly from manufacturing through launch and years of operation in space. We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering Configuration Management Engineer to join the Engineering Practice & Configuration Management team. This role is the EE-domain equivalent of our established mechanical CM function-you will own the end-to-end configuration management process for electrical engineering, spanning component initiation through ECAD library management, PCB design, engineering documentation, release to supply chain, and contract manufacturer handoff. Today, EE workflows span multiple disconnected systems-Xpedition (ECAD), EDM (component library), Teamcenter (PLM), and contract manufacturer interfaces
- but no single person owns the end-to-end process, drives tooling to reduce friction, or has the mandate to standardize across projects.
Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Key job responsibilitiesEnd-to-End EE CM Process Ownership:
Own and continuously improve the full EE configuration management lifecycle. Component initiation- > ECAD library definition
- > PCB design
- > engineering documentation
- > synchronization to PLM database
- > release to supply chain
- > contract manufacturer handoff.
Cross-Project Process Standardization:
Define and enforce PCBA lifecycle standards, BOM structure conventions, document templates, revision control protocols, and EBOM vs. MBOM definitions across all design projects.Component Data Integrity:
Drive synchronization between EDM and Teamcenter, own the Approved Vendor List (AVL) lookup table, establish mechanisms that validates component data integrity for engineering releases.Configuration Document Ownership:
Author and maintain configuration management standards as the champion for the EE domain. Counterpart to existing Mechanical Configuration Management Engineer.Custom Component Release Governance:
Ensure custom modules (ASICs, make to spec customized components) follow traceability and release standards. Identify and eliminate process gaps in configuration control.BOM Integrity Enforcement:
Establish single-source-of-truth practices and automated verification of BOMs. Identify workflow process pain points to author business requirements documents and tool improvement proposals.Training & Enablement:
Build and deliver EE-specific configuration management curriculum for project teams; establish onboarding materials and ongoing competency development. A day in the life As a Configuration Manager , you'll work across nearly every engineering discipline involved in spacecraft development. You will act as Subject Matter Expert in this domain and will be responsible for daily Tactical and long term Strategic initiatives around engineering product life cycle development systems, standards, and processes that ensure spacecraft design data remains accurate, traceable, and controlled throughout the product lifecycle. You will be the person who ensures the library of 6000+ EE components are managed, PCBAs release cleanly, and EE engineers spend time designing rather than fighting configuration debt. About the team The Configuration Management team develops and governs the engineering systems, standards, and processes that ensure spacecraft design data remains accurate, traceable, and controlled throughout the product lifecycle. While the organization originated as a traditional design support function, it has evolved into the engineering authority for product data management and engineering configuration. The team defines how engineering information flows throughout the digital engineering environment, including Product Lifecycle Management workflows, mechanical and electrical design tool integration, engineering data management, and the interaction between Teamcenter, Siemens NX, Mentor, and other engineering platforms. They also develop tooling and automation that improves engineering productivity while maintaining data integrity across these systems. In addition to managing engineering data, the organization serves as the company's subject matter experts in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. They develop engineering standards, mentor design engineers, and promote best practices that improve drawing quality, manufacturability, and technical consistency across the organization. The team also defines and continuously improves the organization's configuration and change management processes for hardware, requirements, and engineering documentation. They work closely with software organizations to strengthen integrated hardware and software configuration control while ensuring traceability throughout the development lifecycle. Today the organization facilitates Engineering Change Committee and Configuration Control Board activities while actively developing increasingly automated workflows in partnership with the Engineering Information Systems team. These efforts continue moving the organization toward a more efficient, data driven approach to engineering governance. Basic Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related fields
- 5+ years of experience in configuration management, product data management, or engineering process ownership in an EE/ECAD environment
- Hands-on experience with PLM systems (Teamcenter preferred) and ECAD tools (Mentor/Siemens Xpedition preferred)
- Demonstrated understanding of PCBA design-to-manufacturing workflows, including BOM management, revision control, and release processes
- Experience authoring and governing engineering process documentation and standards
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with ability to drive standardization across multiple project teams Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with EDM (component library management) and EDM-to-PLM synchronization
- Familiarity with contract manufacturer handoff processes and supply chain BOM requirements
- Experience building or improving CM training/enablement programs
- Knowledge of EBOM vs. MBOM distinction and enforcement in complex electromechanical products
- CMPIC or equivalent CM certification
- Experience in aerospace, satellite, or high-reliability electronics environments
- Track record of reducing configuration debt and improving release velocity through process improvement
