Job Description We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Software Engineering to provide technical and organizational leadership for one or more enterprise software products and platforms. This role is responsible for engineering execution, software architecture, operational excellence, talent development, and cross-functional delivery.

The Director of Software Engineering partners closely with Product Management, Architecture, Customer Success, Operations, and Executive Leadership to ensure technology investments deliver measurable business and customer outcomes. While leading and developing engineering teams, this individual will remain actively engaged in technical decision-making, architecture reviews, engineering best practices, and delivery execution.

This position has end-to-end ownership of engineering delivery for assigned products and platforms, including technical strategy, resource planning, roadmap execution, operational health, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Technical LeadershipProvide technical leadership through architecture reviews, technical design discussions, and engineering decision-making.

Drive adoption of modern engineering practices, automation, DevOps methodologies, and AI-assisted software development capabilities.

Establish engineering standards, development practices, and operational processes that promote scalability, maintainability, security, and reliability.

Lead technical design reviews and guide architecture decisions across complex distributed systems.

Product & Delivery ManagementPartner with Product Management and business stakeholders to define product roadmaps, prioritize investments, and deliver customer-focused solutions.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on engineering effectiveness, software quality, operational excellence, and delivery predictability.

Ensure successful execution of engineering roadmaps while balancing business priorities, technical debt, and innovation.

Manage engineering resources and align team capacity with strategic objectives.

Operational ExcellenceDevelop and maintain key engineering, delivery, reliability, and operational metrics to measure team and platform performance.

Ensure production environments meet standards for availability, scalability, observability, security, and operational resilience.

Collaborate across Engineering, Product, Customer Success, Operations, and Executive Leadership to align technical priorities with business goals.

Participate in customer discussions, escalations, strategic initiatives, and executive planning activities as needed. Skills and Requirements 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including leadership of engineering teams delivering enterprise-scale applications and platforms.

Proven experience managing and developing software engineers, technical leads, and engineering managers.

Strong understanding of:

Distributed systemsMicroservices architecturesEvent-driven systemsAPI development and integrationModern software engineering practicesExperience operating and supporting cloud-based production environments with accountability for reliability, scalability, observability, and security.

Experience leading architecture reviews and guiding technical strategy across complex software ecosystems.

Strong partnership experience with Product Management and business stakeholders to translate business objectives into technical roadmaps and execution plans.

Experience with one or more cloud platforms including AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.

Hands-on knowledge of modern development technologies such as Java, C#, Scala, Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript.

Strong understanding of software development methodologies, engineering life cycles, and organizational scaling practices.

Demonstrated ability to translate business strategy into technical direction and executable engineering plans.

Strong leadership, communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to influence executive stakeholders and drive outcomes through collaboration.

Experience leading engineering organizations within SaaS, cloud-native, or enterprise software environments.

Experience with large-scale platform modernization and digital transformation initiatives.

Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and emerging software engineering technologies.

Experience managing highly available, customer-facing cloud applications.

Experience implementing DevOps, CI/CD, SRE, and engineering automation best practices.

Experience working in regulated industries such as healthcare, financial services, insurance, or other compliance-driven environments.
