This position is 100% remote, indefinitely. •Emergent Software is looking for a Senior Software QA Engineer who is smart, passionate, and efficient. You'll own quality on complex, data-driven, web-based applications and websites, working closely with developers, product owners, and clients throughout each project. Profit sharing bonus means as we're successful, you're successful Excellent benefits package including medical insurance, dental, vision, 401(k) matching, FSA, disability, life insurance, and paid parental leave Primary Duties Build test coverage that matches project risk, and communicate coverage decisions and tradeoffs to the team and client. Take part in backlog refinement and story shaping, helping the team write testable acceptance criteria before development starts. Plan test cases for user stories and features with the agile team. Partner with developers throughout each sprint to catch issues early, reproduce defects clearly, and resolve them together rather than just handing them off. Perform hands-on testing against acceptance criteria throughout each project. Coordinate regression testing and scheduled client testing, using automation where it makes sense and earns its cost. Keep quality status visible and current, so leads, product owners, and clients can see where things stand without having to ask. Evaluate mid-project changes for testing impact. Estimate QA effort for upcoming work, track your time accurately, and flag it early if test coverage and budget are in conflict. Help improve our QA processes, making them more efficient and reliable. Explore and apply AI-assisted testing tools and techniques, and bring what works back to the team in a usable way. Coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) directly with clients, explaining quality status and risk in terms non-technical stakeholders understand. Other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Experience on an agile development team as a Quality Engineer, owning test strategy and execution across the full project lifecycle. Judgment about where automation adds value and where hands-on testing is the better investment. Experience writing comprehensive test plans and test cases, and adapting coverage as requirements change. A solid understanding of how websites, web applications, APIs, databases, mobile apps, Windows apps, and the cloud work at a high level. Ability to support multiple client projects at once, from embedded, sprint-based testing on active builds to lighter regression coverage on maintenance work. Experience working within scoped budgets or billable-hours environments, with good judgment on where to prioritize testing effort. Strong attention to detail, and the ability to work with teammates to find practical solutions to quality issues. Strong technical writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills. Nice to Have Experience Azure DevOps (ADO), Jira, or other agile work tools. Experience using AI to speed up test design, test data generation, or defect analysis. Test automation experience, particularly with Playwright. Experience planning tests for large projects. Previous consulting experience, independent or with a firm.
