Building Automation Specialist - Aviation Bowman Engineering & Consulting - 1.0 Dallas-Fort Worth, TX Job Details Full-time 20 hours ago Qualifications Systems integration HVAC control system operation Bachelor's degree in engineering Full Job Description The Building Automation Specialist (BAS) Engineer - Aviation is responsible for the planning, design, integration, commissioning, and optimization of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Energy Management Systems (EMS) supporting airport and aviation facilities. This position works closely with airport owners, facility operators, engineering teams, contractors, and technology vendors to develop and maintain efficient, reliable, and secure building systems. Responsibilities include control system design, MEP systems integration, technical oversight, commissioning support, troubleshooting, and client coordination throughout the project lifecycle.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
may include any or all the following: Analyze project scope and develop BAS design solutions for aviation and transportation facilities. Design, specify, and integrate
BAS, HVAC
controls, lighting controls, utility monitoring systems, and energy management systems. Develop control narratives, sequences of operation, system architecture diagrams, and technical specifications. Coordinate BAS requirements with mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and technology disciplines. Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, control system programming, and equipment selections. Participate in factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and commissioning activities. Troubleshoot BAS performance issues and recommend corrective actions. Ensure compliance with GAAP and taxing authorities through coordination with external tax firm. Evaluate existing building systems and provide recommendations for upgrades, modernization, and operational improvements. Support construction administration activities including Requests for Information (RFIs), change orders, field observations, and quality assurance reviews. Gather and analyze facility performance data to identify opportunities for energy savings and operational efficiencies. Prepare technical reports, project updates, and client presentations. Coordinate with airport operations personnel to minimize disruptions during implementation activities. Attend project meetings, conduct site visits, and provide technical guidance to clients and project teams. Special projects and other duties as assigned. Education and/or Experience Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related field required. 5+ years of experience in Building Automation Systems (BAS), Controls Engineering, Facility Automation, or related field. Experience designing or supporting BAS systems for large commercial, institutional, transportation, or aviation facilities. Experience with BAS platforms such as Siemens Desigo, Johnson Controls Metasys, Tridium Niagara, Schneider Electric EcoStruxure, Honeywell, Automated Logic, or similar platforms. Experience with HVAC controls, energy management systems, and MEP system integration required. Experience with airport facilities, transportation infrastructure, or mission-critical facilities preferred.
