United States Experience:
7+ years of software engineering experience, including substantial hands-on Go development and debugging Primary focus: Go open-source package and dependency upgrades Role Overview We are seeking a Senior Go Software Engineer to lead complex third-party open-source package upgrades in a large monorepo. This role spans the full engineering lifecycle: package assessment, version updates, dependency remediation, build stabilization, validation of existing tests and applicable presubmit checks, change submission, and migration reporting.
Scope :
The role focuses on fixing and executing existing tests. Creating new unit or integration test suites is not required. Key Responsibilities Assess assigned packages before execution, including dependency trees, API-change exposure, build impact, and anticipated upgrade complexity. Upgrade Go modules and package versions; separate upstream version changes from local patches when needed; and safely reapply or retire patches. Resolve breaking API changes in upgraded libraries and update directly affected downstream callers within the approved scope. Diagnose and resolve Go and Bazel build failures, existing test failures, and applicable presubmit failures caused by the upgrade. Maintain Copybara configurations and troubleshoot source-synchronization or integration issues related to package changes. Use approved internal tools and reusable automation to accelerate analysis, failure triage, validation, and evidence capture. Submit review-ready change lists with a clear technical rationale, validation evidence, patch status, and traceable migration records. Document and escalate material package deviations, external blockers, and cross-product dependency impacts with actionable evidence. Required Qualifications At least 7 years of software engineering experience, including substantial hands-on Go development and debugging. Strong knowledge of Go modules, semantic versioning, transitive dependency resolution, package compatibility, and idiomatic API refactoring. Hands-on experience with Bazel, go build , go test , CI and presubmit pipelines, and troubleshooting in large monorepo-based build environments. Proven ability to isolate compiler, linker, build, test, and runtime failures introduced by dependency upgrades. Proficiency in Git-based change management, code review, merge-conflict resolution, and local patch lifecycle management. Strong Linux and scripting skills for investigation, repeatable validation, and engineering automation. Clear written and verbal communication, disciplined documentation, and effective collaboration with reviewers and language subject-matter experts. Mandate Experience Experience with Copybara or comparable source-synchronization tools. Experience with large-scale open-source dependency upgrades, vulnerability remediation, or package-maintenance programs. Experience managing complex dependency graphs, generated code, multi-target changes, and high-impact API migrations. Experience developing reusable upgrade playbooks or automation within controlled enterprise environments.
Expected Outcomes Accepted package upgrade:
The package builds successfully, all existing tests and applicable presubmit checks pass, and the change list is submitted.
Migration report:
Includes package and version details, code and dependency remediation, validation evidence, patch disposition, and approved exceptions.
Predictable delivery:
Blockers are escalated early, handoffs are clean, reusable lessons are captured, and progress remains steady against assigned priorities.
