Job Description
Are you a skilled IT professional who thrives on solving complex technical challenges and improving user experience? VTA is seeking an Information Systems Analyst II to support the users' systems in order to keep our organization running efficiently. In this role, you will perform advanced troubleshooting, and technical support across a range of applications, and end-user systems. You'll play a key role in maintaining users' desktops, laptops, applications, implementing upgrades, and identifying opportunities to improve performance and efficiency. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on analyst who enjoys working in a collaborative environment, supporting both users and enterprise systems, and contributing to meaningful projects that impact public transportation services. If you are ready to take ownership of complex systems, support innovative solutions, and grow your career in a mission-driven public agency, we encourage you to apply. About the Technology Department The Technology Department strives to provide the highest quality technology-based services and solutions, in the most cost-effective manner, to facilitate the needs of our customers within VTA and the customers VTA serves. Definition Under general supervision, the Information Systems Analyst II provides technical and analytical support to VTA's information systems and computer servers. Distinguishing Characteristics This is the journey level in the Information Systems Analyst series. This class is distinguished from the Information Systems Analyst I by performance of the full range of duties as assigned. Incumbents at this level are expected to be able to analyze information system problems, operations and configurations to identify opportunities for improving system operations and efficiencies, manage the most complex system control tasks, and perform the full array of installation and troubleshooting responsibilities. This classification provides information to users and coworkers on a one-on-one basis to transfer work or demonstrate applications and/or business processes. The Information Systems Analyst II may provide leadership or assistance in projects involving internal and external personnel. Activities include arranging meetings, being an active participant, coordinating tasks, proposing solutions, or demonstrating or testing application functionality on basic deployments/upgrades. This class differs from the higher level class of Senior Information Systems Analyst in that the Senior Information Systems Analyst is the advanced journey-level classification and performs the most difficult and responsible types of duties assigned to this class series, including serving as project lead over staff responsible for technical and analytical support to VTA's computer information systems and computer servers. The Senior Information Systems Analyst may lead project functions including assigning work, delegating assignments, reviewing the work of others, and keeping the supervisor updated. The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a technically strong, customer-focused and solutions-oriented IT professional with experience supporting end-user environments. This role requires a proactive individual dedicated to maintaining excellent customer service through effective use of the helpdesk phone line and ticketing system. They bring a solid foundation in troubleshooting, system analysis, and infrastructure support, along with the ability to independently manage complex technical issues from diagnosis through resolution. They are proficient in supporting Microsoft environments (Windows OS, Office, Exchange, MS Teams), hardware and peripheral installations, with experience working across desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and multifunction equipment. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate system performance, recommend improvements, and enhance operational efficiency. In addition to technical expertise, this individual is a collaborative team player who communicates effectively with both technical and non-technical users. They are comfortable providing one-on-one support, explaining systems and processes, and contributing to small-to-mid-sized projects, including coordinating tasks with vendors and internal stakeholders. A proactive mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment will set the successful candidate apart. Experience in public sector environments or supporting large-scale mission-critical systems is highly desirable.
