WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
An employee in this class works with a variety of Town staff and assists in the testing, maintaining, and monitoring of computer applications and systems. Key components include the Town's hardware/server systems, network infrastructure, databases, and business applications. Work includes assessing the usefulness of pre-developed application packages and adapting them to the Town's user environment; recommending new equipment or software packages; and determining computer software or hardware needed to meet organizational goals. The employee must also develop, revise and document system design procedures; test procedures, and quality standards, expand or modify systems to serve new purposes or improve work flow, and coordinate systems within the organization so that information can be shared. Work may occasionally require evening and weekend hours, is performed mostly independently with direction from department leadership, and is evaluated on quality and effectiveness of the work output as defined by technology standards and user reports. This position reports to an Information Technology Supervisor. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
A SAMPLE OF THE ESSENTIALS
Assists with major systems projects involving the design, testing and implementation of computer applications to enhance work performed by Town departments; determines scope and timeline for projects and provides the necessary technical documents for review and acceptance throughout the life cycle of projects. Engages town personnel to determine technical requirements for automating business practices; consults with users to define needs and requirements; translates business requirements into technical design documents; uses technical design documents to write code or evaluate third party software; develops testing and implementation strategies; tests and demonstrates applications and makes modifications based on user feedback. Documents and maps organizational business processes, including process integration and data flows. Develops and administers SQL database systems used by enterprise applications. Such tasks include creating databases, performing maintenance, working with SSRS and SSIS, managing backups and restorations, performance tuning, creating scripts and stored procedures, maintaining user accounts and permissions. Assists in managing enterprise applications by evaluating and implementing new software releases while maintaining a close working relationship with the software vendor; troubleshoots system errors and takes corrective action in a manner that minimizes impact on Town business operations. Creates and maintains reports; produces ad-hoc reports on request; performs data extraction, to include data mapping and conversion. Develops and maintains PowerBI reports and dashboards. Supports specialized system software and acts as a liaison with software vendors. Provides technical support and training to users of enterprise applications.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, mathematics, statistics, or engineering with course work in computer science or management information systems, and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in systems analysis and programming or assigned area of specialty; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
