Job Description:
Are you passionate about improving systems and driving innovation through technology? As an IT Operations Analyst I with the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT), you'll be part of a collaborative and forward-thinking team supporting mission-critical systems for the Business Technology Systems Division. The successful applicant will be responsible for network monitoring and management of the agency's telecommunication and network infrastructure. This is an on-site position. Pay Rate is $25.218/hr.
JOB DUTIES
Hardware/software and network support. Perform network design utilizing knowledge of network communications regulations and principles. Installation, diagnosis, repair, and calibration of telecommunications equipment. Perform some analysis of network components such as switches, routers, cabling, and load balances. Life-cycle management, including asset record maintenance, as well as update and replacement projects. Troubleshoot and perform system maintenance using precision instruments and technical equipment. System research, procurement, and/or training. Recommend configuration/alterations of the agency-wide network within established parameters. Advise customers regarding the capacity, cost, and placement of the network/systems. Provide limited network solutions in circumstances where decisions are made within established parameters. Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate degree in computer science and two years of related technical and business experience. Two years of related technical and business experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. OR Post high school coursework in computer science and three years of related technical and business experience. Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a public-sector environment and knowledge of IoT infrastructure is preferred.
Other:
This position requires in-office attendance; remote work is not permitted. Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation. Occasional Scheduled Overnight Travel. Regular and reliable attendance is mandatory.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
The ideal candidate will demonstrate broad knowledge of network design and operations, network systems support, and telecommunications theory. This includes familiarity with networking interfaces, electronic communication systems, application and user systems, and hardware/software testing tools. The role requires a solid understanding of operational needs related to data communications, computer systems, and agency-specific missions, rules, and procedures. Knowledge of telecommunication protocols, communication software, and network management processes is also essential. The candidate must bring strong skills in problem-solving, operations analysis, critical thinking, troubleshooting, and time management. Effective project organization and decision-making abilities are key to success in this role. The position requires the ability to communicate clearly across multiple mediums, prioritize tasks, and perform hands-on installation of communications equipment. The candidate should be able to build cooperative working relationships, produce concise and accurate documentation, manage high-pressure deadlines, and interact effectively with diverse personalities.
