Job Summary The Federal Telecommunications Engineer is responsible for leading the design and development of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), telecommunications, and low-voltage systems for complex projects, including U.S. Government agency and department clients. This role involves creating conceptual and detailed system designs, coordinating multidisciplinary project efforts, managing project scope, budget, and schedule, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices. The position also provides technical leadership, quality oversight, and mentorship to junior staff. Job Description Lead communications system design efforts and coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams. Develop conceptual and detailed designs for telecommunications, ICT, low-voltage, and related communication systems. Prepare and review design drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical analyses. Coordinate with BIM/CAD teams to support drawing production and project deliverables. Perform quality control reviews and independent technical assessments of engineering deliverables. Manage assigned project budgets, scopes, schedules, and resources. Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior designers and engineering staff. Support the development of design standards, guides, and templates. Conduct site visits, field investigations, and prepare assessment reports as required. Assist with business development, proposal preparation, and project pursuit activities. Ensure designs comply with applicable industry codes, standards, and client requirements. Skills Required Minimum of 4 years of telecommunications system design experience Strong knowledge of ICT, telecommunications, and low-voltage system design. Understanding of NEC, IEEE, EIA, TIA, and BICSI standards, codes, and best practices. Experience with structured cabling systems, including safety and constructability considerations. Knowledge of inside plant (ISP) telecommunications infrastructure, pathways, copper cabling, fiber optic systems, and connectivity. Experience designing outside plant (OSP) copper and fiber optic communication systems. Familiarity with audio-visual (AV) system design. Proficiency in developing design drawings, specifications, and technical documentation. Experience coordinating with BIM/CAD teams and multidisciplinary project teams. Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to perform technical reviews and quality assurance activities. Leadership and mentoring capabilities. Education/Training/Certifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Information Technology, or a related technical field preferred. Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification required. Certified Technology Specialist - Design (CTS-D) certification preferred. Additional Requirements U.S. Citizenship required for projects supporting U.S. Government agency/department clients.
