VP of Ecommerce Location:
On site, Durham, NC To Apply jess@mycarpe.com with three things:
a paragraph in your own words (not written by AI) on why you're the right person for this, a PDF of your resume, and a link to your portfolio. Point us to one page you designed and built on your own and tell us what number it moved. is the only way to apply. About Carpe Carpe is the fastest growing deodorant brand in the US. Our team is composed of about 30 insanely smart people working together in person in downtown Durham, NC. Our office is rather open with many private niches, and our energy level is HIGH. About the Role Our website is where people decide whether or not they believe us, and we want someone whose job is to keep making it better, week after week. This is a design role and a build role at the same time. You'll mock things up in Figma, then write the HTML, CSS and JavaScript yourself and get it live. There's no developer to hand off to and no ticket queue to wait on. Once something is up, you'll watch how customers actually use it and keep adjusting from there. Since most of our traffic comes from phones, that's where the work starts. The site is on Shopify. If you haven't worked in it before, that's fine, as long as you've built webpages on your own and put them in front of real customers. Liquid takes about a week to pick up and we'll help you with it. You'll get plenty of opinions along the way. The head of our ecommerce business has them, and so does the conversion consultant we work with, who brings research to back hers up. We want you to take all of that in, weigh it, and then decide what actually ships. The outcome is yours either way. We lean on AI heavily and we'd expect you to as well, whether that's Cursor, Claude Code, or whatever gets your design into a browser fastest. If you're still sending files to a developer to build, this probably isn't the right fit. What You Will Do- Design, build and ship landing pages, funnels and on-site experiences that get more people to buy
- Own the front end of the storefront in HTML, CSS and JavaScript (it's Shopify, and we'll get you up to speed on Liquid)
- Run our testing program from start to finish, from framing a test and building it through to reading the results and shipping whatever won
- Watch session recordings and use what people are actually doing on the site to decide what to build next
- Make sure every page looks right on every screen size, with phones as the priority
- Keep the design system consistent so the site holds together as it grows
- Find your own broken states, slow loads and copy mistakes before a customer runs into them What We Are Looking For
- You've designed and built webpages yourself and taken them all the way to live, rather than handing them to someone else to finish
- You've run A/B tests on a live site and can walk us through what came out of them
- You have a portfolio of site work with actual results attached
- You use AI coding tools to build your own designs
- You design for phones first, and it's obvious from your work
- You have good taste and can explain the reasoning behind it
- You care about the result, not only the design
- You listen to feedback and still make your own decisions
- You want to be one of the best at this What Makes You Stand Out
- You've worked at a DTC brand, or somewhere else where conversion was the whole game
- You've built or modified Shopify themes
- You've run a testing program yourself, rather than contributing to someone else's
- You pay attention to page speed and accessibility without anyone asking you to Why This Role This is the part of the business where design has a direct line to revenue.
- Health, vision and dental
- Flexible PTO
- A close-up view of one of the fastest growing brands in body care To Apply jess@mycarpe.
