Elmira College is a private liberal arts College located in the Finger Lakes region of New York. Elmira College was the first college to offer a comprehensive curriculum for women, and is home of the Center for Mark Twain Studies.
Elmira College is seeking an experienced Course Developer to join the Academic Affairs team to design and build a fully online, high-quality 3000 level online genetics course. The course must meet established online quality standards, including alignment with the OSCQR Rubric.
This role requires a professional with both deep subject-matter expertise in genetics and demonstrated experience in online instructional design. The ideal candidate will create engaging, accessible, and pedagogically sound learning experiences that prepare pre-med students for academic success.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Design and develop a fully online, asynchronous 12-week genetics course aligned with MCAT competencies
Ensure all course components meet OSCWR Rubric standards (course organization, accessibility, assessment, interaction, and learner support)
Develop MCAT-style, passage-based assessments with detailed rationales
Integrate multimedia learning elements (videos, animations, interactive activities) to support diverse learners
Design opportunities or student engagement, interaction, and self-assessment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Advanced degree in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field (PhD preferred; Master's required)
Demonstrated experience developing fully online courses in higher education or test preparation
Working knowledge of the OSCQR Rubric and online course quality standards
Experience with instructional design models
Proven experience building courses in Canvas
Expertise in core genetics concepts and MCAT-relevant topics
Strong assessment design skills, particularly for standardized test preparation
Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail

COMPENSATION
$2,000 upon completion of course design.
This position is not benefit eligible.
