Job Description
Description The Director Design Execution is responsible for establishing, scaling, and leading the centralized enterprise design delivery function. This leader will first assess current and future design needs, define the team structure and capabilities required to meet those needs, and stand up the design program, research practices, operating model, and delivery processes necessary for reliable, high-quality execution across all solution areas. The Director leads a small multidisciplinary in-house team spanning UX, UI, Content Design, and User Research. The role is accountable for improving existing experiences and delivering minor feature enhancements through practical, evidence-based design. Its work spans highly technical and varied contexts, including Salesforce, Adobe Experience Platform and related digital experiences, SAP, SuccessFactors, business intelligence dashboards, End User Services, manufacturing and operational systems, employee technologies, and other complex enterprise applications. Success requires broad enterprise design capability across workflows, platforms, users, and operating environments; experience limited primarily to web or marketing experiences will not provide the breadth required for this role. As a founding leader in the Design organization, the Director will build trusted relationships with business and technology teams, demonstrate the value of design in an environment where design has not historically been embedded in the process, and create demand for earlier design engagement. This role is a peer to the Director Design Systems & Governance, who owns the cohesive standards and direction that inform execution, and the Director Innovation & Transformation Design, who owns future visioning for an AI-first enterprise technology experience.
- Assess enterprise design needs and define the organizational structure, roles, capabilities, and capacity required to establish a scalable Design Execution function.
- Build trusted relationships with business and technology leaders, educate teams on when and how to engage Design, and establish Design as a valued partner earlier in discovery, planning, and delivery.
- Stand up the design program for reliable execution, including engagement models, intake and prioritization, delivery workflows, research processes, quality reviews, measurement, and ways of working within a highly regulated environment.
- Build, lead, and develop a centralized in-house team of UX, UI, Content Design, and User Research professionals aligned to the highest-value needs across solution areas.
- Lead day-to-day design execution that improves existing experiences through usability enhancements, workflow simplification, content optimization, accessibility improvements, and minor feature enhancements.
- Direct design across complex enterprise technologies and contexts, including Salesforce, Adobe Experience Platform, SAP, SuccessFactors, BI dashboards, End User Services, manufacturing systems, operational platforms, employee technologies, and customer-facing experiences.
- Establish compliant, practical, and scalable user research practices, including research planning, review of users and materials, participant engagement, testing protocols, synthesis, and evidence-based recommendations.
- Demonstrate the value of design through user insights, improved usability, adoption, efficiency, risk reduction, and measurable business outcomes.
- Ensure design recommendations balance user needs, business priorities, regulatory and compliance requirements, accessibility, operational realities, and technical feasibility.
- Partner with Design Systems & Governance to apply enterprise standards and cohesive direction, and with Innovation & Transformation Design to translate relevant future-state concepts into practical improvements without duplicating their ownership.
- Create a high-performing design culture grounded in collaboration, craft excellence, flexibility, continuous improvement, and data-informed decision making.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, User Experience, Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, Digital Design, Information Architecture, Communications, or a related field required; master's degree preferred.
- Demonstrated success assessing organizational needs and building, scaling, or transforming an enterprise design capability, operating model, or design delivery practice.
- Significant experience designing for complex enterprise systems, workflow-driven applications, operational technologies, analytics, and business platforms across multiple user groups and business functions.
- Proven ability to operate across CRM, ERP, HR, data and analytics, manufacturing, employee technology, operational, and customer experience contexts. Experience focused primarily on web or marketing experiences alone is not sufficient for this role.
- Demonstrated ability to influence Sr. business and technology leaders through relationship building, education, research insights, data, storytelling, and measurable outcomes.
- Strong command of user-centered design, interaction design, information architecture, visual design, content strategy, accessibility, prototyping, usability testing, research planning, and evidence-based decision making.
- Strong people leadership, coaching, facilitation, communication, organizational change, stakeholder management, prioritization, and cross-functional delivery skills.
- This role requires regular in-person Nice to have
- Hands-on familiarity with enterprise platforms such as Salesforce, Adobe Experience Platform or Adobe Experience Cloud, SAP, SuccessFactors, Power BI or comparable analytics platforms, manufacturing systems, and End User Services technologies.
