REMOTE - Senior Conversational UX Designer

FreelanceRemote$73.33 - $79 /hr Posted May 21, 2026 Our retail client is looking for a Senior Conversational UX Designer to join their team on a 3-month contract with a high likelihood of extension. This position is 40 hours a week and fully remote. You must work 9-6pm CST. You will be responsible for crafting intuitive, human-centered conversational experiences across virtual assistants, chatbots, and multimodal interfaces. You will partner closely with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to design, test, and refine experiences that meet user needs and business goals. You'll leverage journey maps, flows, sample dialogs, prototypes, and tuning methodologies to deliver high quality interactions across channels. Duties of the
Senior Conversational UX Designer:
Partner with product teams, engineers, and stakeholders to understand requirements and constraints Lead design workshops and alignment sessions to shape conversational strategies Build thoughtful, user-centric conversational flows for voice and chat experiences Produce user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and detailed UI specifications using Figma Assess and tune customer journeys and conversational flows for clarity, consistency, and effectiveness
Measure design solutions using qualitative and quantitative insights Create recording scripts, maintain prompt catalogues, and ensure persona adherence Validate that applications function as designed through structured testing Demonstrate and teach HCD methods to uncover patterns and opportunities Maintain strong knowledge of conversational AI, VUI patterns, and multimodal interaction design Requirements of the Senior Conversational UX Designer:
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, HCI, Linguistics, Cognitive Science, Graphic Design, Digital Communications, or related field Portfolio of work examples
A minimum of 1 year of conversational design experience A minimum of 5 years working in UX Design, etc Experience with speech recognition, ASR, NLU, VUI, and multimodal interfaces Deep understanding of VUI design patterns and enterprise scale conversational systems Experience designing voice personas informed by research, demographics, and brand guidelines Experience designing with Microsoft Copilot tools and workflows Proficiency in Figma for wireframes, flows, and prototypes Ability to independently lead proposal discussions, alignment workshops, and design reviews Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) is highly preferred Omnichannel experience is nice to have In this position, you may have access to client or customer systems, confidential and/or proprietary information or data, including medical data.
