Job Summary:
The Student Assistant Web Developer will use specific skills valued in the field of web application programming. This position will be expected to perform web development in support of the University Libraries FOLIO programming project contributions.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Current undergraduate student at The University of Alabama.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:
Applicant must be able to demonstrate proficiency with a relevant programming language in Java and JS web dev frameworks or libraries. Spring.io preferred for back-end, React preferred for front-end.
Skills and Knowledge:
Front-End (Client-Side) FOLIO's user interfaces are built as modular web applications. [1] •
Core Language:
JavaScript or TypeScript. •
UI Framework:
React. •
UI Toolkit:
Stripes, FOLIO's official user interface toolkit which provides pre-built components and patterns. •
Tooling:
Node.js (Active LTS) for package management and testing. [1, 2, 3, 4] -End (Server-Side) FOLIO uses a microservices architecture. While you can program modules in any language, these are the officially supported standards: [1, 2, 3, 4, 5] •
Core Language:
Java. •
Application Framework:
Spring Framework (specifically utilizing the FOLIO Spring-Way template). •
API Definitions:
OpenAPI (OAS) and JSON Schemas. •
Build Tool:
Apache Maven. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Enrollment Requirements:
Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment. ground
