Job Description

Web Development Manager Job Description Summary:
As the university embarks on a comprehensive, enrollment-centered web redesign in partnership with an external agency, the Manager of Web Development will play a critical role in guiding technical implementation, establishing scalable information architecture, and ensuring seamless integration with recruitment systems (e.g., Slate). Beyond the website redesign, the Manager is responsible for sustaining the platforms technical health, advancing Answer Engine Optimization ( AEO ) strategies to ensure the universitys visibility in AI-driven search, and leveraging AI agents to assist with high-volume content rewriting. This role ensures keyword and tone uniformity to enhance brand cohesion across the digital ecosystem. The position requires an in-depth understanding of back-end development, user experience (UX), structured data/schema markup, and digital governance to deliver a compelling web presence for prospective students and the broader community.
Minimum Qualifications:
Advanced knowledge of information architecture and user-focused web communication (UX/UI). Expertise in Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and data visualization tools (Looker Studio). Deep understanding of web accessibility standards ( WCAG 2.1 AA/ AAA ) and compliance. Strong understanding of web security best practices and server environments (Unix/Linux). Ability to translate complex institutional goals into scalable digital infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications:
Software versioning using GitHub or similar repository environments. Command-line interface experience (WordPress CLI , Unix/Linux). Experience working within Agile project management frameworks. Familiarity with higher education enrollment marketing and the prospective student journey.
Specific Duties:
Collaborate with external agency partners to implement a unified, enrollment-centered WordPress platform. Assist with consolidation of multisite sprawl, establishing a scalable information architecture, and ensuring the new platform meets accessibility ( WCAG ) and performance standards.
Percentage of Time:
25% Execute high-volume web content rewriting initiatives using AI agents and tools to ensure keyword optimization, tone uniformity, and brand cohesion across all digital properties. Develop and maintain content frameworks that empower distributed authors while enforcing institutional standards.
Percentage of Time:
25% Assist in building and sustaining the universitys information schema and structured data architecture to optimize for AI-generated search experiences ( AEO ) and traditional SEO . Monitor AI visibility metrics and adapt technical structures to ensure accurate institutional representation in large language models and conversational search engines.
Percentage of Time:
15% Manage complex integrations between the website and recruitment CRMs (e.g., Slate) to optimize the prospective student inquiry journey and data flow.
Percentage of Time:
10% Design and implement A/B and multivariate testing to improve enrollment conversion pathways based on user behavior data in marketing dashboards (e.g., Google Data Studio/Looker Studio).

10% Research and recommend emerging technologies (e.g., AI chatbots, personalization tools) that can enhance the universitys reputation and visibility. Attend relevant training and conferences.
Percentage of Time:
5% Oversee core CMS and plugin updates, site/server migrations, and technical performance monitoring. Ensure robust web security practices and manage development/staging/production environments.
