Position Summary Overview St. Petersburg College is seeking a skilled Full Stack Developer with strong experience in .NET and Azure , working knowledge of PHP , and a practical understanding of end-to-end application ownership . This role supports and evolves a portfolio of institutional web applications used across academic and student affairs, balancing new development, legacy system support, and long-term modernization efforts. Due to the size and structure of the organization, developers are responsible for the full lifecycle of the applications they support from design and development through testing, deployment, maintenance, and ongoing technical support. There are no dedicated QA or application support teams; quality, reliability, and sustainability are shared engineering responsibilities. This role is ideal for a developer who is comfortable working across technologies, values operational awareness, and understands that done means working well in production. Responsibilities Design, develop, enhance, and maintain web-based applications using Microsoft .NET (C#, ASP.NET) and Azure services. Provide ongoing support and maintenance for existing PHP applications , including troubleshooting defects, implementing minor enhancements, and reducing technical debt. Participate in the incremental migration of legacy PHP applications to .NET , contributing to architecture decisions, refactoring strategies, and phased modernization plans. Own applications through their entire lifecycle , including requirements analysis, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, support, and continuous improvement. Design, build, and maintain RESTful APIs to support integrations with internal systems and third-party platforms. Integrate applications with external APIs and institutional systems, ensuring secure, reliable, and well-documented data exchange. Use Git for source control, following established branching, code review, and deployment practices. Perform developer-led testing , including unit testing, functional validation, regression testing, and verification of bug fixes prior to release. Diagnose and resolve application-level production issues , including investigating errors, data inconsistencies, performance concerns, and failed integrations. Collaborate with Tier 1 support staff and analysts to resolve escalated technical issues related to supported web applications. Participate in root-cause analysis and implement fixes or design improvements to prevent recurring issues. Optimize applications for performance, security, accessibility, scalability, and long-term maintainability. Leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, IDE-based AI assistants, code analysis and testing tools) to increase productivity, improve code quality, and accelerate troubleshooting. Create and maintain technical documentation to support application sustainability, onboarding, and effective operational support. Collaborate with functional stakeholders and end users to implement enhancements, resolve issues, and improve overall system usability.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in information systems or a related field; four (4) years of related work experience in area of responsibility; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Preferred qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Strong experience in full stack web development using .NET, C#, and Azure in production environments. Working familiarity with PHP , including the ability to support, troubleshoot, and refactor existing PHP applications. Experience supporting applications across their full lifecycle , including testing, deployment, and post-release support. Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and resolving production application issues . Proficiency with Git for version control, including branching, merging, and conflict resolution. Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs . Front-end development experience using HTML, CSS, JavaScript , and modern frameworks (Angular, React, or Vue preferred). Solid understanding of SQL , relational databases, and data modeling principles. Familiarity with Agile or iterative development practices in small to mid-sized teams. Experience using AI tools to augment development workflows , such as code generation, refactoring, testing assistance, or documentation support. Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate clearly with both technical peers and non-technical stakeholders. Experience in higher education or a complex enterprise environment is a plus.
