You can learn about our benefits here: https://humanresources.baltimorecity.gov/hr-divisions/benefits Job Summary We are seeking a motivated Engineering Intern (Generalist) to support cross-functional engineering initiatives across our digital products and platforms. This role is ideal for someone who is curious, adaptable, and eager to gain hands-on experience in modern software development, systems thinking, and product delivery. You will work alongside engineers, designers, and content editors to contribute to real projects that impact users, while building foundational technical and professional skills. Essential Functions Support development of web applications, tools, and internal systems across the stack (frontend, backend, or infrastructure) Assist with debugging, testing, and improving existing codebases Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and team standups Contribute to documentation, including technical specs and user guides Help analyze system performance, identify issues, and propose improvements Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver user-centered solutions Conduct research on tools, frameworks, and best practices as needed Minimum Qualification Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience) Basic proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., JavaScript, PHP, React, Node.js) Familiarity with web development concepts (HTML, CSS, APIs) is a plus Familiarity with Drupal CMS platform is a plus Understanding of version control systems (e.g., Bitbucket, Git) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail Ability to learn quickly and adapt in a fast-paced environment Strong communication and collaboration skills Additional Information Background Check Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed. Probation All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
