Type:

full-time Acorn Marketing is seeking an experienced Web Developer with strong WordPress expertise to join our growing team. This position is well suited for a seasoned developer who can confidently manage a variety of client website projects in a collaborative agency environment. You'll work alongside experienced strategists, designers and account managers to build and maintain reliable, effective and user-friendly websites. We're looking for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, writing clean code, staying current with evolving technologies and bringing sound technical recommendations to the team. This is a full-time position based in Grand Haven, Michigan, with a minimum of three days per week in the office. Up to two days per week may be worked from a home office or other professionally appropriate remote location. Role Description:

The Web Developer is responsible for building, maintaining and optimizing client websites that support brand standards, user needs and marketing objectives. Responsibilities include developing front-end interfaces, implementing back-end functionality, integrating third-party tools and ensuring responsive, accessible, high-performing and search-optimized website experiences. The Web Developer collaborates with designers, strategists and account managers to translate project requirements into clean, efficient solutions; troubleshoot issues across browsers and devices; maintain and enhance existing websites; document development work; and contribute to the continued improvement of Acorn's web development processes, standards and capabilities.

Qualifications & Experience:

5+ years of hands-on WordPress development experience , preferably within an advertising, marketing or web development agency environment. Advanced proficiency in WordPress , including site development, customization, maintenance, troubleshooting and optimization. Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS and JavaScript , with demonstrated experience in responsive and cross-browser development. Proficiency in PHP and the ability to develop and modify WordPress functions and functionality. Demonstrated ability to write clean, readable, maintainable and well-structured code . Experience developing or modifying custom WordPress themes, plugins or administrative interfaces . Experience integrating APIs, third-party platforms and external tools with WordPress websites. Proficiency with version control and established software development practices. Experience managing web hosting environments, including cPanel and WHM . Experience working with Visual Composer/VisualBakery and Elementor or comparable WordPress page builders. Strong understanding of website accessibility, performance optimization and applicable standards and requirements , including WCAG and HIPAA considerations. Strong understanding of technical SEO and AEO best practices , including structured data/schema markup and evolving AI/LLM search technologies. Experience using Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics and Google Search Console to evaluate website performance, diagnose issues and support optimization. Experience with Mailchimp, Constant Contact or similar email marketing platforms. Strong technical and non-technical communication skills, including the ability to explain development considerations and recommendations to team members with varying levels of technical expertise. Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot technical issues, manage competing priorities and identify effective solutions. The following experience is valuable but not required: Experience with React and Node.js. Experience with more advanced custom WordPress application development, including dashboards, administrative interfaces, custom themes and plugins. Experience implementing advanced technical SEO, structured data and AI/LLM optimization strategies.

Education:

A degree or substantial coursework in Computer Science, Web Development, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related field is preferred; however, equivalent professional experience and demonstrated technical expertise will be considered.
