This role offers the opportunity to design and deliver distributed systems that support product discovery, catalog and hierarchy management, ranking, fulfillment options, and other core shopping capabilities. Responsibilities Design, build, and maintain backend services that support marketplace shopping experiences and related platform capabilities Contribute to system architecture and technical design discussions for scalable, production-grade solutions Develop services that support product discovery, catalog management, hierarchy management, ranking, and fulfillment functionality Work across the full delivery lifecycle, from solution design through implementation and deployment Collaborate with team members to solve complex technical challenges in a fast-moving environment Help ensure services are reliable, efficient, and built to support high-scale usage Participate in ongoing improvements to performance, maintainability, and operational stability Skills 10 to 15 years of professional Java development experience Strong experience with Spring Boot and microservices architecture Deep understanding of system design and distributed systems Hands-on experience with Kafka and event-driven architecture Strong working knowledge of PostgreSQL or other relational databases Ability to independently design and deliver complex backend solutions Clear communication skills and a collaborative, solution-oriented mindset Experience working in production environments with scalable systems Preferred Skills Experience in marketplace, e-commerce, or retail environments Familiarity with Spring Cache Experience with GCP and BigQuery Background in performance tuning and optimization Experience owning large-scale production systems end to end Comfort working in environments with ambiguity and evolving requirements Horizontal is committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to contribute.
