Schedule:
12-hour shifts (7P to 7A Days) Weekend expectation: up to 96 hours per 8-week schedule Major holidays are assigned upon hire on a 3 year rotating schedule NP 5200 is a 37-bed inpatient adult medical/stepdown oncology unit. Our main patient populations involve symptom management for oncology patients, administration of chemotherapeutic agents, and end-of-life care. Nursing care is provided in collaboration with other departments and disciplines including hospital medicine, surgical services, pharmacy, case management, social work, nurse navigators, dieticians, and chaplain services. The unit is also part of Duke Cancer Institute of Wake County, which provides comprehensive cancer treatment for patients in Wake County receiving care across the continuum of inpatient and ambulatory settings. Provide professional nursing care in accordance with physician orders, DUHS policies and procedures, and North Carolina Board of Nursing scope of practice. Deliver comprehensive patient care including assessment, care planning, implementation, evaluation, and communication of patient status to the healthcare team. Develop chemotherapy and immunotherapy administration competencies through structured education, precepted orientation, and completion of required certification programs. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality, coordinated oncology care across the continuum. Support unit operations through leadership activities, quality improvement, and effective use of resources. No experience required. All CNIs will be enrolled in and must complete the DUHS Nurse Residency Program within 12 months of hire. CNIs are required to meet criteria set forth by the DUHS Nurse Residency Program within 18 months of hire to be promoted to CNII. Graduation from an accredited Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (or higher), Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program is required. All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) must enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of start date and complete within five years. Nurses hired with a valid compact license must obtain a North Carolina nursing license within 90 days of start date. BLS required. Strong knowledge and application of the nursing process, professional standards, and regulatory requirements. Ability to assess, plan, deliver, document, and evaluate care for acute and chronically ill patients. Effective communication and collaboration skills with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams. Proficiency with clinical documentation systems, computer applications, and new software tools. Physical and cognitive ability to safely perform patient care activities and meet job demands.
