Job Description

Joy Child Development Center (Joy CDC) is a non-profit organization committed to serving children and families in our community. Our mission is to provide a warm, supportive, and developmentally sound learning environment that supports each child's growth while giving families confidence that their child is well cared for and loved. Joy Child Development Center has recently expanded its programs and is preparing to open our fourth classroom. We are currently seeking full-time and part-time Teaching Assistants and Teacher Aides to support our expanding preschool and toddler classrooms. Joy CDC provides early childhood education and care for children ages 19 months through 5 years old.
Position Summary:
Assistant Teachers/Teacher Aides support Lead Teachers in implementing developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with Joy CDC's assigned curriculum. Assistant Teachers play a key role in maintaining consistency and continuity of care by stepping in for Lead Teachers during absences and providing classroom coverage as needed. This position supports daily classroom activities, child supervision, and the overall operation of the center. Assistant Teachers work collaboratively with the teaching team to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment that supports each child's development.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Communicate effectively and professionally with staff, children, and families Support implementation of lesson plans based on the assigned curriculum and plans developed by the Lead Teacher Ensure daily lessons and learning activities are developmentally appropriate and responsive to children's age, culture, diversity, and individual needs Assist with completing documentation related to children's development, safety, learning experiences, and behavior, including written and photographic records Create and maintain an organized, well-supplied, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment Maintain a safe and healthy classroom environment through appropriate supervision and adherence to hygiene and infection control practices Ensure mandatory safety equipment and first aid supplies are available and accessible at all times Clean tables using soap and bleach solutions before and after meals, after art activities, and during end-of-day closing procedures Model family-style dining and appropriate classroom and social manners Call roll and complete meal counts for breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack Assist with diapering, potty training, and toileting routines as needed Maintain strict confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff; adhere to photo release and social media policies (photos may only be taken using Joy CDC equipment) Arrive to work on time and prepared for daily responsibilities Attend required staff meetings and professional development trainings Provide classroom coverage and support across age groups as needed Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent At least 1 year of teaching experience with young children preferred Must be willing to obtain a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential within a designated timeframe after hire Must pass a background check Current First Aid and CPR certification, or ability to obtain upon hire Meets licensing and NAEYC Accreditation standards for continuing education Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English Ability to read and interpret written policies and communicate clearly with families Benefits & Professional Growth Competitive compensation, commensurate with experience and qualifications Paid time off (PTO) Paid sick leave in accordance with applicable regulations Eight (8) paid holidays annually Childcare tuition discount Professional development and ongoing training support, including support toward obtaining a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential Small classroom ratios that support individualized, developmentally appropriate care Consistent full-time schedule Supportive and collaborative professional work environment Physical Requirements Ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds Ability to sit in child-sized chairs and work at floor level Ability to kneel, bend, sit, stand, walk, and run as required Position includes exposure to common childhood illnesses Schedule Full-time position, Part-time position Between the hours of 6:45am and 6:00pm Monday through Friday Day shift Work location: In person Joy Child Development Center is proud to be a collaborative, relationship-centered workplace committed to high-quality early childhood education and professional growth.
