Tool Room Machinist

THIS IS NOT A MACHINE OPERATORS POSITION.

Analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools to make component parts, and fits and assembles parts to make and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machine components. Utilize machinist hand tools and applying knowledge of tool and die designs and construction; shop mathematics; metal properties; and layout, machining, and assembly procedures.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes products Computes dimensions and plans layout and assembly operations Works with precision measuring equipment to develop parts within tolerance Performs a wide variety of duties to fabricate, repair, and maintain all dies and fixtures, and any other special tool equipment Works from simple drawings to complicated designs or samples and recommends design changes and improvement when necessary May develop specifications from general descriptions and make drawings or sketches Sets up and operates machine tools (e.g., lathe, milling machine, shaper, grinder) to machine parts Verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications May examine standard or previously used tools, dies, and equipment repair parts, modify and build as appropriate Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualification Requirements:

Ability to read and interpret complicated drawings and specifications Ability to utilize and interpret precision measuring tools Knowledge and ability to utilize mathematics in handbook formulas, such as geometry, algebra, and trigonometry Possess the requisite skills to analyze and implement verbal and/or written instructions Proficient in all areas of MS Office Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Minimum five (5) years of experience in machining preferred Some welding experience a plus

Physical Demands and Abilities:

While performing the duties and responsibilities of this position, the member is frequently required to stand, walk, talk and hear, bend, use hands and/or fingers to handle, touch objects assemble parts, utilize tools or controls Must be able to lift 40 pounds, carrying and moving parts, materials, and product Possess analytical and problem-solving skills Possess a high level of motivation A concern for quality and safety A willingness to learn new skills Ability to sustain a steady work pace and follow a schedule Ability to withstand extreme heat during summer season, at times reaching over 100 degrees
