Tractor Trailer Mechanic

Tractor/Trailer Mechanic - Minooka, IL | $30-$38.00/hr | Fleet Maintenance Position Summary We are hiring an experienced Tractor/Trailer Mechanic to perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on Class 8 tractors and dry van trailers in a fast‑paced fleet environment. The ideal candidate is a safety‑driven, detail‑oriented diesel technician who can work independently to keep equipment compliant, reliable, and road‑ready. Key Responsibilities Preventative Maintenance — Perform PM services and routine inspections on Class 8 tractors and trailers. Mechanical & Electrical Diagnostics — Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, air brake, and suspension systems. DOT Compliance — Conduct DOT inspections and ensure all equipment meets federal and company standards. Engine & Drivetrain Troubleshooting — Diagnose engine, transmission, and drivetrain issues (non‑rebuild level). Trailer Repair — Repair or replace doors, landing gear, lights, wiring, air lines, and other trailer components. Documentation — Record all work performed using maintenance software or work orders. Shop Safety — Maintain a clean, safe work area and follow all safety procedures including lockout/tagout and PPE. Communication — Communicate repair needs and equipment status with supervisors and drivers. Qualifications Previous experience as a diesel mechanic, tractor/trailer technician, or fleet maintenance mechanic. Strong knowledge of diesel engines, air brake systems, electrical systems, and trailer components. Ability to read and interpret repair manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical documents. Proficiency with diagnostic tools, hand tools, and shop equipment. Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform physical tasks such as bending, climbing, and working under vehicles.
