Job Description

Texas Trailer Country is looking for a Full Time Trailer Mechanic / Trailer Technician / Yard Guy / Forklift Operator. +++ Required
  • Previous Trailer Repair Experience +++ +++ Desired
  • Previous Repair Experience with another Cargo/Utility Trailer Dealer +++ SUMMARY The Trailer Mechanic / Yard Guy is responsible for performing preventative maintenance procedures and minor repairs on utility and cargo trailers with little or no supervision.
Such procedures and repairs include:
Repair and preventative maintenance of tires, wheels, bearings, axles, suspension, electric brakes, frame, welding, electrical system (lights & brakes), minor body repairs such as replacing fenders, exterior panels and roofs on cargo trailers. The Yard Guy will also be responsible for unloading Utility Trailers with the Forklift and arranging and maintaining inventory on the yard.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform mechanical work consisting of maintenance and repair of axle(s), bearings, leaf springs, shackles, etc.
  • Perform minor electrical work such as tracing and troubleshooting brake and lighting issues.
  • Welding on spare tire mounts, couplers, minor trailer frame repairs, hinges and other trailer parts.
  • Organizing yard (Heavy Forklift Use in Tight Spots moving trailers), Unloading Trailers with the Forklift and putting tires on them.
EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE A
High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or one year of verifiable equipment or trailer maintenance related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in equipment/trailer maintenance and repair.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES DESIRED

  • One year mechanical experience on trailers desired
  • One year of electrical troubleshooting and repair on trailers desired

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced outdoor yard environment.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS A
valid driver's license Mechanical or welding certificate desired but not required
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, and the potential customers. Communicates with a wide range of individuals from sales staff to management.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds or more. Must operate equipment such as hand tools, power tools, jacks, welding equipment and forklift.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to oil, grease and welding gases/fumes. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee may be exposed to extremes in temperature and environmental conditions. The employee may work in a shop or out in the yard. We are open Rain or Shine.
