Job Description

Job description A. Operations (60%) Drives bus to transport passengers over specified routes to local and distant points according to routes mapped out by transit planners. Conducts pre and post trip inspections of assigned vehicle, collects and documents transit fares, operates two-way radio. Provides escort services on and off the transit vehicle for elderly, and mobility impaired passengers. Maneuvers wheel-chair clients onto vehicle and secures wheelchair in transit vehicle; operates electro-hydraulic wheel-chair lift. Complies with local traffic regulation, reports delays or accidents. B. Administration (15%). Maintains and collects data required by contracting agencies; maintains paperwork relating to vehicle operation including, time and mileage sheets, mileage/passenger information, vehicle inspection sheets and work sheets. C. Maintenance (15%) Conducts operator level maintenance of transit vehicles to include: fueling vehicles, checks and maintains proper fluid levels, cleans and maintains interior and exterior of vehicle for appearance, and takes vehicle to maintenance facility for routine and scheduled maintenance. Maintains statistical data on vehicle for maintenance reporting purposes. D. Professional Development (10%). Attend scheduled driver training sessions and seminars; attend professional training in subjects to include: dealing with the public, assisting handicapped clients, first aid, and CPR. Performs other related duties for the Commission as required. Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. Knowledge of organization and administration of the Wiregrass Transit Authority. Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state and local regulations regarding public transportation. Knowledge of motor vehicle operations and maintenance. Ability to read and comprehend state and federal reporting criteria and to collect data for the preparation of these reports. Writing skills to maintain records of maintenance and passenger profiles. Ability to read city map, use GPS, and recommend potential services routes. Ability to speak (English) clearly and concisely. Ability to effectively use a two-way radio. Knowledge of preventative maintenance procedures and the ability to conduct pre and post operation maintenance checks and services. Mechanical skills to operate electro-hydraulic wheel-chair lift. Mechanical skills to perform rudimentary diagnosis of vehicle or equipment faults. Credentials and Experience. High school degree or GED. Prefer A minimum of one year of direct related experience in driving transit or passenger vehicles. Must have good driving record to pass insurance company MVR screening.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
See well enough to read text materials, maps and road signs. Hear well enough to carry on normal conversation and respond to emergency signals. Speak well enough to address individuals and groups. Have the use of hands and fingers to drive. Body mobility to help disabled passengers embark/debark the vehicle. Ability to lift a weight of approximately 35 pounds to a height of 4 feet. Who we Are The Southeast Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission (SEARP&DC) was created in 1969 under legislation passed by the Alabama State Legislature. The Commission is administered and governed by a group of 35 individuals from the seven member counties. These individuals act as liaisons for the citizens in their counties. The needs of the citizens are given to SEARP&DC and goals are established. The staff of

Our Mission To Improve the Quality of Life for the Citizens of Barbour, Coffee, Covington, Dale, Geneva, Henry and Houston Counties. The Southeast Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission was formed to assist communities with a number of services. A number of departments fall under the umbrella of
SEARP&DC.
These include Community and Economic Development, Head Start, Senior Aides, and Wiregrass Transit.
