JOB SUMMARY
The Bus Driver will operate a bus or school vehicle transporting students on daily routes and to special destinations for student instruction and will perform other school duties when not directly involved in student transportation. Hopi Junior/Senior High School is committed to helping all students develop skills in the areas of personal-social growth, educational planning and career and vocational development.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
:
THE LIST OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS IS NOT EXHAUSTIVE AND MAY BE SUPPLEMENTED.
Provides safe, courteous, and timely transportation services to students, including daily school transportation, transportation to and from school-sponsored activities as scheduled and assigned, and other transportation services which are designed to provide students with access to regular and supplementary educational and other required and needed services provided by the school. Provides transportation services in accordance with all traffic and safety regulations and school transportation services policies and procedures, including loading and unloading of passengers, required safety stops and procedures at railroad and other required crossing, and other applicable regulations and procedures. Shows courtesy and respect to residents and members of the public; this includes receiving complaints about schedules and quality of service. Monitors and maintains discipline on the bus at all times; Provides for enforcement of student bus conduct in accordance with the policies and procedures of the JH/SHS. Maintains bus in a safe, clean, and pleasant manner. Conducts daily vehicle safety checks and routine maintenance checks to ensure vehicle safety and consistent operation. Checks the bus daily to assure systems are functioning properly. Advises the Lead Driver or Operation Director of any requirements for maintenance or repairs. Maintains and submits timely and accurate records of vehicle operation, maintenance, and utilization as required by the Lead Driver or Operation Director, including ISEP Student Count Week data and information. Conducts duties and responsibilities in accordance with HJ/SHS Governing Policies and Procedures. Drives bus on regular route and special assignments. Attends transportation training as required to successfully perform designated responsibilities as directed by supervisor. Conducts bus evacuations as required.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
Demonstrated skills in dealing with people in difficult circumstances with considerable tact. Professional verbal and written communication skills in English; ability to instruct and maintain emotional control under stress. Skilled in operating a school bus. Knowledge of rules and established procedures in operation of a school bus. Ability to read directions and write regular reports. Punctual and reliable with excellent time management skills. Knowledge of general school site rules and policy. Knowledge of Governing Board rules of conduct and policy. Skill in communicating orally and in writing. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others, requiring the ability to interact professionally and courteously with students, faculty, staff and the public.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess a Valid Arizona CDL Driver's License, class A, B, or C with passenger Endorsement and a Valid Arizona School Bus Driver Certification. Must be able to pass a physical examination ensuring applicant ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs., sit for long periods of time, bend, stoop, and other physical requirements of this position role; this includes day and evening operation of school student transportation vehicles. Must also pass a required drug test. Minimum of GED or high school education completion required. Demonstrated competency in safe passenger vehicle (bus; van; other) operation in all types of weather conditions, preventive bus and van vehicle maintenance, monitoring and enforcement of student bus conduct, record keeping, radio communication, and other applicable skills required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Hopi/Indian Preference in employment considered. Valid State Driver Licenses. Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card. Must successfully pass employment background checks within the last five years, which include state, federal and local tribe.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AFTER HIRE
Maintain excellent driving record.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
School year contract (10-months). Hourly rate and work year established by the Governing Board per classified hourly rate schedule.
