  • afternoons Position Summary We are seeking dependable and safety-minded individuals to join our transportation team as a Substitute School Bus Driver.
This is an on-call, afternoon-only position providing transportation coverage when regular school bus drivers are absent or additional coverage is needed. This position is ideal for individuals looking for a part-time opportunity with an afternoon schedule. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Safely operate a school bus on assigned afternoon routes.
  • Transport students safely and on schedule from school to their designated stops.
  • Conduct required pre-trip and safety inspections before operating the school bus.
  • Follow all traffic laws, school bus safety regulations, and established transportation procedures.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and orderly environment for students.
  • Monitor student behavior and address safety concerns appropriately.
  • Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus safely.
  • Maintain communication with the transportation department as required.
  • Report accidents, incidents, vehicle defects, student concerns, and other safety issues promptly.
  • Complete required transportation records, reports, and inspections.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and safe condition of the assigned school bus.
  • Participate in required training, safety meetings, and refresher training.
  • Perform other transportation-related duties as assigned. Schedule
  • On-call substitute position
  • Afternoon shifts only
  • Work is available on an as-needed basis to cover regular drivers and transportation needs.
  • Shifts will generally occur during the afternoon student dismissal and transportation period.
  • Candidates must be dependable, punctual, and available to accept afternoon assignments when needed.
  • Advance notice may be provided when possible; some assignments may be offered on short notice.
Training Provided We will train qualified candidates. Individuals who do not currently have school bus driving experience may be considered. The organization will provide required training and assist successful candidates through the applicable Arizona school bus driver certification process. Training may include, as applicable:
  • Required classroom instruction
  • Behind-the-wheel school bus training
  • School bus safety and student transportation procedures " Pre-trip and vehicle inspection procedures
  • Passenger loading and unloading procedures " Emergency and evacuation procedures
  • First Aid and CPR training
  • Required testing and evaluations
  • Preparation for the applicable Arizona school bus driver certification requirements Applicants must successfully complete all required training, examinations, screenings, and certification requirements before operating a school bus independently. Minimum Qualifications
  • Must meet applicable Arizona requirements for school bus driver certification.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain the appropriate Arizona driver's license and endorsements required for the school bus being operated.
  • Must obtain and maintain the required Arizona Department of Public Safety School Bus Driver Certificate before independently transporting students.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid Arizona DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card as required.
  • Must meet applicable medical and physical requirements.
  • Must successfully complete required drug and alcohol screening.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record consistent with Arizona school bus driver requirements.
  • Must successfully complete required classroom and behind-the-wheel training.
  • Must successfully complete required physical performance, written, and driving examinations.
  • Must be at least the minimum age required by applicable Arizona and federal requirements.
  • Must demonstrate dependability, good judgment, patience, and the ability to work appropriately with school-age children.
Applicants must successfully complete all required training, examinations, screenings, and certification requirements before operating a school bus independently. Pay is $16.00 per hour while in training. Starting pay $19.00 after training. The job description is intended to be generic in nature.
