This vital role involves operating specialized vehicles designed to transport individuals with mobility challenges, ensuring they reach their destinations comfortably and securely. With a competitive hourly rate and a schedule that offers Tuesdays and Wednesdays off, you'll enjoy a balanced work-life experience while delivering exceptional customer service. Your expertise in driving, safety protocols, and passenger care will be the driving force behind our mission to provide reliable, accessible transportation. Duties Safely operate Class B commercial vehicles, including paratransit vans and buses, adhering strictly to traffic laws and transportation safety regulations. Assist passengers with wheelchair boarding and disembarking, providing wheelchair assistance with compassion and professionalism. Ensure passenger safety by following emergency response procedures for transportation and executing emergency stop procedures when necessary. Maintain clear communication with passengers, team members, and dispatchers to respond quickly to traffic changes or route adjustments. Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to identify mechanical issues, ensuring compliance with vehicle codes and mechanical knowledge standards. Provide excellent customer service by addressing passenger needs, managing behavior, and ensuring a positive experience for all riders. Handle heavy lifting tasks such as securing mobility devices or assisting passengers with luggage or personal items in accordance with safety guidelines. Requirements Valid Class B commercial driver's license (CDL) with passenger endorsement; experience working with children or seniors is highly desirable. Proven experience in bus driving, school bus driving, transit bus operation, or similar commercial driving roles. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and state/local commercial driving laws. Demonstrated ability to respond quickly to traffic changes and manage emergency situations effectively. First aid certification including CPR training; familiarity with emergency response procedures for transportation is essential. Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities. Physical ability to perform heavy lifting tasks and assist passengers with mobility needs safely. Mechanical knowledge of vehicle systems for routine inspections and troubleshooting. Experience working with children or providing childcare is advantageous; behavior management skills are important for maintaining passenger discipline when needed. Excellent customer service skills combined with the ability to handle stressful situations professionally. Must submit to a background check and drug test in accordance with California Law Must have a current DOT medical certification Must have a clean driving record and be eligible to be insured by our insurance carrier.
