In this vital role, you will operate various types of vehicles—including buses, vans, and transit vehicles—ensuring passengers are transported safely, comfortably, and on time. Your expertise in traffic laws, vehicle operation, and passenger safety will help create a positive experience for all riders. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to combine professional driving skills with meaningful community service. Responsibilities Safely operate commercial vehicles such as buses, vans, and transit vehicles in accordance with all traffic laws and transportation safety regulations Assist passengers with wheelchair assistance and provide exceptional customer service to diverse populations, including children and individuals with special needs Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents and respond quickly to traffic changes or unexpected situations Maintain vehicle cleanliness, perform routine inspections, and report any mechanical issues promptly to ensure vehicle safety and compliance Enforce student discipline policies when transporting school-aged children and manage passenger behavior professionally Adhere to school policies and state/local driving laws while ensuring passenger safety at all times Communicate effectively with dispatchers, passengers, and team members using clear language and multilingual skills when applicable Skills Proven experience in bus driving, school bus operation, or transit bus operation with a strong understanding of vehicle codes and transportation safety regulations Knowledge of traffic laws, defensive driving techniques, emergency stop procedures, and quick response to traffic changes Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary for loading/unloading equipment or assisting passengers Excellent communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities Familiarity with student discipline management and behavior management strategies during transit CPR certification and first aid training to handle emergency situations confidently Strong writing skills for completing shift reports, incident logs, and documentation accurately Experience working with children or individuals with special needs is highly desirable Embark on a rewarding career where your driving expertise makes a difference every day!
