Floater/Substitute Position Type:
Part-Time, Non-Exempt Pay Rate:
$22/hr
  • $24/hr.
Description This position serves as a flexible and reliable transportation provided by operating school buses along assigned routes and schedules for after-school programs, summer programs, and special events. The floater will need the ability to float between various locations and schools in Duval County, Alachua County, and Nassau County as needed to support operational demands. This includes adapting to different pickup and drop-off points, ensuring timely arrivals, and maintaining communication to accommodate changes in assignments
KEY ROLES
(Essential Job Responsibilities): This position's primary responsibilities are: Operate vehicles safely and professionally Transport members, following pre-planned routes per a definite time schedule during the school year Drive vehicles carefully and in compliance with traffic regulations Assume responsibility for the safety of children in loading, unloading and while transporting them Instruct members in safety precautions and practices Maintain discipline of passengers; report any unruly behavior to a supervisor Clean bus interior daily Perform daily preventative maintenance checks Keep operational records up to date and report issues to supervisor
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Attend relevant staff meetings and training events May participate in additional special programs and/or events Evenings/weekend work may be involved Other duties as assigned Requirements Education High School diploma or GED Current state-issued Commercial Driver's License (B) with P Endorsement Must have a (S) endorsement for school buses Dependable and safe driving history CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain (Will Train) Ability to pass DCF Level II background screening and drug test Experience and Qualifications Experience working with or transporting children preferred Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior issues Ability to organize and supervise members while maintaining a safe environment Ability to work with the public Experience driving transit buses is a plus
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position generally works M
  • F,1 PM
  • 7 PM (part-time, approximately 3-6 hours per day); however, it may require longer hours outside of this schedule and occasional weekends when necessary.
Full-time driving may be available during Spring Break and during the Summer. Work is conducted indoors and outdoors.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to sit for long periods Ability to lift and move equipment up to 25 lbs.
