Job Description
Job Summary The School Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of students to and from school, field trips, and other authorized activities. This includes operating a school bus in compliance with all federal, state, and local traffic laws and school policies, maintaining student safety and discipline, and ensuring the bus is operated and cared for properly. In certain routes, the driver is also responsible for safely maneuvering and securing the school bus during ferry transport. Responsibilities Safely operate a school bus along assigned routes, adhering to all traffic laws and regulations. Pick up and drop off students at designated locations in a timely manner. Maintain order and ensure student safety on the bus at all times. Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus, reporting any mechanical issues immediately. Maintain required logs, route sheets, and safety checklists. Safely drive the bus onto, within, and off a ferry when routes require: Follow ferry operator's guidance for boarding and disembarking. Properly secure the bus during ferry transport (brakes, transmission, wheel chocks if required). Ensure students remain safely seated and supervised during ferry transit. Assist students in boarding and exiting the bus, including those with mobility needs. Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow all school safety protocols. Participate in required training programs, including defensive driving and school transportation safety refreshers. Perform other transportation-related duties as assigned. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent. Valid Class C Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Clean driving record with no major violations. Ability to safely operate a school bus in varying conditions, including ferry transport. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with children, parents, and school staff. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
