Responsibilities Safely operate school buses on designated routes, ensuring timely pick-up and drop-off of students while following all traffic laws and transportation safety regulations. Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus, including providing wheelchair assistance and supporting children with special needs. Maintain a clean, well-maintained vehicle by conducting pre- and post-trip inspections and reporting any mechanical issues promptly. Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including emergency stop procedures and first aid protocols when necessary. Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers using clear language and active listening skills to address concerns or provide directions. Enforce student discipline policies in a positive manner to promote safe behavior during transit. Respond quickly to traffic changes or unexpected delays to ensure student safety and schedule adherence. Qualifications Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with a school bus endorsement or the ability to obtain one prior to employment. Proven experience in bus driving, transit bus operation, or commercial driving preferred. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and emergency response procedures related to school transportation. Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities. Experience working with children or in childcare settings is highly desirable. Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting students or handling equipment safely. Mechanical knowledge of vehicle operation and basic maintenance is advantageous. Certification in first aid and CPR is preferred; training can be provided if needed. Demonstrated ability to respond quickly to traffic changes while maintaining focus on passenger safety. Familiarity with child behavior management techniques and student discipline policies.
